Gerard Butler Cleanses, Works Out In Secret To Get Back In Shape

Huffington Post   First Posted: 8/24/09 Updated: 5/25/11

Gerard Butler
Butler as seen in '300,' and Butler today on 'Regis and Kelly.'

Gerard Butler got supremely ripped to play a Spartan warrior in the 2007 film '300' - then he inevitably softened up a bit when he laid off the grueling workouts and Spartan diet.

Page Six reports that Butler has been hitting the gym lately on the sly to get his body back in fighting form.

"He's so embarrassed that his six-pack abs have gone, he works out wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses," gushed our spy. "Can you imagine the ladies' response when they think they scored a Spartan warrior but instead see that gut! He joined a private gym in Chelsea, Peak Performance, that's so discreet, it's on the eighth floor and strictly limited to approved members" -- one of whom ratted Butler out.

Friday morning Butler confessed on 'Live with Regis and Kelly' that, like fellow detox devotee Gwyneth Paltrow, he enjoys the benefits of an occasional cleanse.

"I'm internally cleansing," he said. "I have to do it every now and then because I'm not always the healthiest of guys...I don't drink anymore, I don't smoke anymore, I don't really have a life. So then I'll binge out and have burgers and fries and Coca-Colas and then I'll say 'I can't do that anymore, I have to cleanse.'"

I'm sure what is "out of shape" on Gerry is still extremely fit for the average mortal.

Cleansing is ridiculous unless you're going for a colonoscopy.. Even then, it is unpleasant and no fun.

Acai berry is about water weight. Nothing gross as you might imagine. We retain water with one diet soda. More sodium in one can than half a cup of salt. Imagine the sodium you think means nothing because a label says no sugar added. Look at the sodium content.

Let's see if this one is deleted. Again.

Forgot to mention, I aksed my husbandto take me to see The Ugly Truth last night. The theater was packed. He wasn't expecting to laugh much, but did he ever. I laughed so hard at times, I cried.

Loved the movie, loved ALL the characters.

I highly recommend it for couples, married or not!

It was a movie, it was made as a form of entertainment. It wasn't a documentary on the molecular biology of the male-female interaction phenomena... Jeez.

It was an exaggeration of sterotypes and the characters don't represent "real" people.

Besides, do you honestly think that Gerard Butler or Katherine Heigl have issues attracting mates, regardless of how controlling or piggish?

Gerard hon, I love you no matter a six pack, a three pack or even a single pack... I would be more than willing to help you work it off... Uh, I mean by encouraging you to stick to a rigorous exercise program - certainly nothing se.x.ual meant as I am a happily married woman - in good shape, with blue eyes and long thick reddish brown hair .... ;)

Note that the Spartans did not go into battle dressed like that. They were heavily armored.

They actually were very lightly armed and focused on a spear and round shield as well as differentiating battle stances. If you look at the historical evidence of the Spartans and their battle with Persia, as well as several nearby Grecian city states, it all points to evidence that they were great military thinkers who relied on tactics and training, over heavy armor and clumsy metal works.

The Athenian army and their Phalanxes were more armored than the spartans, but had little hold up to their training on the field.

The section of the portion of HP is called "Entertainment," which would lead one to believe herein lies a discussion of the arts. We instead get nothing but celebrity gossip.

What awful grammar! "This section of HP..." is what I meant.

Entertainment is a subjective term. Considering celebrity gossip brings in a lot more readers than art discussion, I wouldnt imagine why anyone would consider HuffPo the site to throw out a good site booster for a higher brow ideal of art.

Even well educated liberals enjoy television and movies.
