Wall Street Journal:

WASHINGTON -- Republicans, seeking to regain political ground in the health-care debate, have launched a series of attacks on Democrats' overhaul plan. But some GOP strategists worry an aggressive approach could backfire, if voters decide the party is obstructing efforts to address an issue they care about.

These articles always make me chuckle.

How many times per day do commenters on this site say how the Republican party is no longer a threat, or is dead?

Whenever major legislation is opposed by Republicans, we hear the above first. Then we hear how the push is on by Democrats and how they will succeed. Then we read these types of stories, and suddenly, that weak, non-existent party somehow is alive and kicking.

Again, they seem to forget that all of this stuff is preserved on video, and it will reappear in 2010, and 2012, and...

Keep talking about what is needed in health care reform out in public. I talked to a couple GOPers this week about it and were able to get them to see simple truths that they had not thought about.

Grass Roots efforts makes a difference.

In addition to the Party of NO, blue dog dumbycrats, and all the other health care reform obstructionists, let us not forget to thank Frank Luntz and his band of merry mashed potatos.

History writes that King Henry Vlll was so fearsom, that he was dead for two weeks before anyone coluld summon the courage to go poke at the corpse to see if he was still alive. So too, movement conservatisim is as dead as dead can be, but it was sooo fearsome that no one has yet to summon the courage to go poke at its rotting corpse. And so Washington goes on as though this monster is still alive and will mauraude once again

It seems that moderation (or is it one particular mod who targets certatin posters or topics?) has a problem with posts that are longer than a sentence and actually do make sense and are on-topic. Why the scrubbing?
Supervisor, please!

For a backfiring there needs to be a charge in the barrel, which seems to be missing here.
To call the former GOP's approach to health care "strategic" is somewhat exaggerated (if one assumes that on the broad political sector PUBLIC HEALTH CARE it is rather strategy that has to be applied than partisan tactics in favor of the corporations).

Could backfire? If they just sit back, cry and moan, offer nothing to help achieve reform, which if workable the president would probably support, and make this clearly about defeating Pres. Obama and not helping the country that has wanted reform for years, they will feel the voter wrath and even "the family" won't save them! If that happens, they deserve what they get.

As a medical professional and self conscious health person I've come up with solutions not only for reforming the health care system but for things that we as individuals can do to decrease our health care costs. I've included many references in my article for others to pursue if they wish as well. You can read it hear - http://bit.ly/9QLV8

No worry people, as long as Rushbo is leading the GOP down the path to destruction, no chance the GOP will have a change of heart, or listen to anyone with a brain and reasoning powers.

70% of OUR country will thoroughly despise conservatives and LOBBYISTS - after this kick in the teeth.

Which is why the Blue Dogs should watch out.
At the last minute the Republicans are going to let go of the tug of war rope and the Blue Dogs are going to fall flat on their butts. THAT is why claiming all of this power and wielding it is foolish.

What the GOP is really worried about is their own a$$e$.

If health care reform goes through, the insurance and pharmaceutical companies would have to compete for business as people switch to the government program. They would have to actually provide the coverage they're selling. Which means lower profits, which means less money to spend lining the pockets of the politicians who do their bidding.

They also had polling that clearly indicated taking an aggressive stance with Judge Sotomayor could backfire, but that didn't stop them either.

True but this issue goes beyond Sotomayor. Voters will be reminded of the Sotomayor deal when the time comes.

They're already trying the soft-and-squishy approach, and the first salvo of obfuscation and disinformation is coming live as we speak. There are "we are so pro-healthcare" propaganda ads all over CNN today, paid for by Big Pharm, attempting to make people think that we're all in this - together, friends, la, la, la!!! Just don't push - too hard - or it'll break!

Uh huh.
