Conjoined Twins Born With One Body, Two Heads In Indonesia (VIDEO)

First Posted: 08/27/09 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 02:45 PM ET

A rare event occurred in Indonesia when conjoined twins were born with one body but two heads. The twins share all vital organs except a heart, of which they both have one. Doctors say it is impossible to separate them since they share so much.

Personally speaking, I probably would have had an abortion.

That being said, humans are very remarkable and resilient. People have lived and thrived through much worse, (torture, war, genocide, etc). I wish them the best.

There are two girls with this in the USA. They are in their teens in high school, play sports, got their driver's licsense and in every way are two normal teens. One controls the left side of the body and the other the right, in complete coordination.

These are two little children who are going to have to share a body. I wish them all the good will and success that I can. To reduce their little lives to a joke or punchline is to be unconcious to the trials they will have have to face. I hope they are loved.

Think about how amazing this is.

You've got cells dividing, pre-programmed to grow in certain locations and hook up with certain other cells. Everything's following a DNA blueprint.

But in this case you've got two hearts that need to connect with one set of lungs. The cells forming an aorta have to somehow organize themselves into a "Y" pipe to make it happen.

Somehow the dividing cells accomplish the impossible. At least in this one case, and once in 100 million or so births something equally fantastic occurs.

It would be like stuffing two transmissions in a car coming down a Toyota assembly line and expecting all the workers on that line, in real-time, to improvise and have the car start and run when it got to the end of the line, with both transmissions fully functional.

I'm not a pro-lifer. In fact I would concur with aborting a severely malformed fetus like this one. But the fact that this creation somehow accomplished this, and survived to be born, is to me a true miracle.

It begs the conclusion that either there IS some sort of Creator, or the evolutionary process created some unbelievably resilient DNA that can even survive a complete change in plans in midstream.

I wish and pray now for this child to somehow survive, and have as full and rich a life as is possible. From reading about the "twins" in other posts, apparently it IS possible.

Chances are that the DNA in each twin is quite normal. There was a failure of proper separation of the 2, not a marvel of extemporaneous genetic reconstruction.

This is an accident that happens to twins from time to time, to varying degrees. Accidents indicate randomness, not Design.

What a story, and your post made it even more interesting and thought provoking. Thanks.

It's really not all that rare.

A few weeks ago a two headed baby was born in India. But that child died. So I am sure this thing happens more often than we think. But most of these children are stillborn or only live for a few days.

Out of 6,000,000,000 humans it is bound to happen. That still makes it extremely rare. I am sure with the advent of ultrasound many of them are aborted in the fetal stage.

Earlier, on another thread, I suggested a link on HealthCare for H-po. If this is indicative of the 24/7 news fill that would be used for such a tab, I take it back.

I don't want to have fun with the theologians at the expense of these damaged children.
