I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Kelly Clarkson

Kelly Clarkson unsuccessfully fought her record label not to release "Already Gone" as the third single off her new album, as the music is the same as the music from Beyonce's hit "Halo."

Clarkson co-wrote the lyrics and was provided the track by producer Ryan Tedder who had, unbeknownst to her, given the same track to Beyonce. By the time Clarkson heard Halo and realized what had happened, her album had printed and shipped and it was too late to omit the track.

As picked up by the NY Post, Clarkson told the Canadian Broadcasting Company:

"No one's gonna be sittin' at home, thinking 'Man, Ryan Tedder gave Beyoncé and Kelly the same track to write to.' " she said. "No, they're just gonna be saying I ripped someone off...

"I fought and fought" to stop it, she said, but couldn't. "In the end, they're releasing it without my consent," says a frustrated Clarkson. "It sucks, but it's one of those things I have no control over. I already made my album. At this point, the record company can do whatever they want with it. It's kind of a sh- - -y situation, but . . . you know, you learn."

clarksons voice rings clearer with greater range and in less need of EXTRAS like the clapping etc on beyonces attempt
beyonce moved into the vacuum left with aaliyahs tragic passing and without that circumstance she would just be another trying to be another......clearly had aaliyah not passed, beyonce would be superfluous

Yes you are right. Not the fact she was frontwoman of Destiny's Child who sold an 8 times platinum album in 1999.

Please. Stop being bitter and using pitting Aaliyah against Beyonce because of your feelings towards Beyonce. Beyonce LOVED Aaliyah and she met Aaliyah once and was in awe. Aaliyah may you REST IN PEACE, free from comparison from people.

The handclapping on Beyonces version is really annoying.

Like Clarkson's track better. She didn't need to fight the label on releasing the song. People are smart enough to understand especially since she has explained what happened. I like some of Beyonce's stuff, but she seems to become less relevant over time and I'm not sure why. Maybe she's not growing much as an artist...sort of stuck and sings about the same old thing. Clarkson on the other hand has blossomed nicely and has a beautiful voice.

I don't mind Kelly Clarkson's "Already Gone", but I'm sick as hell of Sasha Fierce's "Halo". But then again, I've been sick of Sasha Fierce since she left Destiny's Child.

Sure, they're similar, but the rest of the tracks are so different, I don't see a huge problem. It becomes even less important when you think how much artists sample each other. There's nothing malicious here and the songs are different enough - no problem here.

I'm a huge beyonce fan, I've never been into Kelly Clarkson...but i have to say with this particular song (even though the tracks are similar) Kelly's vocals are so much better. Anybody have any links on beyonces opinion regarding this mess up?

thought I'm not a big fan of either song, the vocals are so different you have to really really be paying attention to notice that the tracks are the same.

All of you crazies with your nasty comments about their weights are just ridiculous, why don't you go stare at the food you're too afraid to enjoy instead of creating neurosis in others.

This is what happens when you call yourself a musician but you don't write any songs.

That's a pretty moronic statement. Some of the greatest singers in history weren't songwriters.

I just found these awesome videos of Kelly Clarkson playing a secret show in NYC. She will always be the BEST American Idol. She played songs like “My Life Would Suck Without You” and “Hazel Eyes.” I wish I knew about this concert and was in the crowd, but these videos definitely make up for it!! Heres the link and enjoy =)

I actually like both versions. I don't understand why people have to be so mean and nasty when it comes to stuff like this. It's music. Either you like it or you don't. There are artists that I don't listen to, but I've never felt so bothered by their music that I needed to call them trash or trash them as people.

Additionally, it is profoundly obnoxious to suggest that people are brainwashed because they don't like to music you like. How boring would the world be if only certain people could set the standard for good music?

I enjoy them. I don't like every song they do, but in general, I enjoy their music. They BOTH have very strong voices, and their lyrics make me laugh, smile, and think. You have to agree that those are a few of the many things music can do - even if you don't share my opinion about Kelly or Beyonce.

1 last thing. If this article doesn't meet your standard for a newsworthy item, then don't click on it. Popularity is measured by the number of clicks and comments, not by the number of nimrods who click and then complain about the article. I'm just sayin...
