Obama Gives Basketball Teams Similar Speech
WASHINGTON — President Obama is using a bit of a replay when lauding the WNBA champion Detroit Shock.
Part of his speech Monday was almost identical to remarks he gave three months ago, when hosting the Connecticut Huskies, the NCAA women's champion.
In both speeches, the president said he wanted to speak as a father. He then used a line about his daughters watching him watch SportsCenter on ESPN and seeing women on the screen.
In both speeches he said that made young women look at themselves differently and showed his daughters that "they can be champions too."
All presidents and their speechwriters borrow from themselves. President George W. Bush, for instance, liked to tell a story about a rainbow he saw during a visit to Romania.
