I Like ItI Don’t Like It

As we know by now Colbert enjoys law enforcement in all forms but especially those situations that involve violence. When an elderly lady was tased recently for refusing to sign a parking ticket, we knew Stephen would have something to say on the matter, but we didn't expect a large salute to taser usage that involved him joining the ranks of cable newsmen (aka Rick Sanchez) who get shocked for ratings.

Colbert,
In a society that claims to be civilized enough to know better, what's the point of a cop tasing a 72 years old great grand mother on traffic stop? What ever hapenned to respect to the elderly?
I wish the 72 years old great grand mother that was being taserd by some lunatic coward cop was your mother or the mother of the cop, then, you both would have enjoyed the show.
Read the article "Why Are Cops Tasering Grandmothers, Pregnant Women and Kids, By Scott Thill on AlterNet & come back to tell the world, you are more civilized than the Nerdenthal man.

People really underestimate old women. I mean, she looked seriously dangerous and out of control to me. The policeman was simply reacting to the serious threat her tone of voice implied. She was about to go all "granny" on him and he needed to protect himself.

Tasering is torture by cop. "Welcome to the new American century."

Imagine what could have happened to granny if she were a black male college professor?

And they wonder why people don't trust cops. Never have never will.

We need to outlaw tasers and the cops that use them.............Bring back the billy clubs and night sticks...

Cops are way out of control.

That 72 year old woman should sue this cop and the department for all she can get. There has to be some sort of deterrent to this kind of abuse. Our legislatures and the dumbed-down, desensitized populace can't be counted on to put a stop to it.

The scariest part of all this is that we have been conditioned to look on law enforcement as protector.

Instead, we have armies of cowardly egoists with high powered cars, guns, and tasers.

Granted, many cops are reasonable men, but it only takes one overweight coward to cause unnecessary harm; that feisty woman will attest to that.

It was funny seeing the newsies get tazed; but the cop with the grandma was just plain cruel. He was twice her size, and all she wouldn't do is sign a parking ticket -- hardly a serious crime. Tazers would be okay if we could only teach gung-ho cops to act with restraint, reason and common sense. Unfortunately, those attributes don't seem to be a requirement to be a police officer.

But things are so much better now. In the 60s and 70s, mouthing off to a cop would get you some "stick time." Chicago cops could actually play a pretty good rhythm on the human skull with a nightstick. Tasering is so much more humane, don't you think?

No. Just because clubs are not used and more modern methods of cruelty are that doesn't make it right. Tasering someone should be used as a last resort for self defense not a first reaction for noncompliance, especially if that person is greatly out sized. Tasering this woman was completely unnecessary. She could have died from the shock or the fall afterwards. All over a parking ticket!

wyatt earp syndrome as described by other cops, the need for pwoer and control, and they get to carry a gun..

there is not sufficient psyche testing done before they are hired, not taht that would change what
happens...
there is a german film that shows whathappens..

absolutely horrible, and I experienced it all..
I watched officers having breakdowns becuase of the environment and people they ahd to 'be team' with...
none of the inmates reacted this way, we were all just waitin for our greencards...ordinary lives destroyed, 80 came out in bodybags...

In fact, it's even worse. The original guys in the Stanford experiment *had been psych tested. But the situation they were thrown into induced them to turn a psych experiment into Abu Ghraib in 3 days...We need to change the situations, not just the participants in them.

Common sense and bounds of reason should factor into when and when not to tase. If someone is simply flapping their pie hole...walk away and let them simmer down. There is a difference between a threat to ego and a threat to life.

Tasers are cruel and unusual punishment for how police offers use them -- I say ban 'em. (The tasers, not the officers . . . I think.)

The sad part is... there are those who actually believe there is no difference between cardiac defibrillation and tasering... they think both are safe. What they fail to realize is that defib can STOP a heart just as easily as it can start one... anyone who watches any medical show knows that.

But there will always be those that argue that Tasers are no different than guns... if a person is properly trained, there is no danger. The problem is that there is a different perception of a projectile (bullet) entering someone's body and 50,000 volts surging through one.
