I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Colbert

While Stephen Colbert the person may find the birther movement morally reprehensible, Stephen Colbert the character embraces it wholeheartedly. That's why, despite his obvious distaste for guest Orly Taitz, he spent the better part of last night's show "defending" the conspiracy theorists.

Orly, and many others like her including several members of Congress, believe Barack Obama is not our rightful president because he was not born on U.S. soil. Even if he was, they argue, it would not be legitimate for him to take office because his father was not a U.S. citizen. Granted, neither was Chester A. Arthur's nor Orly's but the irony and historical comparison is lost on these folks. Despite overwhelming evidence that Obama was in fact born in Hawaii the birthers continue to dominate the news cycle for lack of a more intriguing topic in mid-summer.

Colbert broke down last night and gave this group the acknowledgment they deserve by allowing his viewers into the Colbert birthing chamber (segment 1) and talking to Ms. Taitz about her bat-shit crazy theories (segment 2). Not only did she compare Obama to Stalin and Hitler but made a "joke" about digging up his father's remains. It was all bonkers, but what do you expect from a woman who is equal parts lawyer, dentist and real estate agent?

Here's a female attorney from CA with a thick Russian accent. Quite a candidate for right wing spokesperson, huh? I know many Russian immigrants are right-leaning, but still. For Americans to take her word on our constitution over Republican leaders that decry this movement is a little surreal. Thank you, Mr. Colbert for shining the brilliant light of "Truthiness" on this......er, issue.

She needs to be Palin's running mate in 2012 that would cement the Republican ticket all the way to the sub-primaries.

It must have been frustratingly difficult for SC to refrain from referring to her as Taintz.

If this person is a Dentist, a Lawyer, and a Realtor, I would love to know where she bought her credentials! Would you trust her anywhere near your mouth with sharp instruments? Would you put your life and liberty in her hands in a court of law? Would you trust her with an escrow check or the key to your house? Sheesh....Colbert tore her to shreds and she thought he was agreeing with her. Some people are just too stew pid to grasp satire.

Her law degree is from an unaccredited online law school. California has a loop hole that allows an attorney to sit for the bar if they graduated from any law school located in the state.

After reading the post you libs leave here I have to agree.

You attempt to criticize this woman, but why not just have Obama allow his legal team stop fighting the relase of the birth certificate? What is the big deal. He could put this all to rest with a phone call.

Why are libs affraid of what you might find. If this is just a kook conspiracy theory then lets put it to rest by exercising the "transparency" Barry promised?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:14 PM on 07/30/2009

It's a kook conspiracy theory because it has been proven time and time and time and time and time and time and time again that Barack Obama is an American citizen. Orly Taitz is a knuckledragging buffoon of a human being as is anyone who buys into this ridiculous BS. I am ashamed that I am still talking about this, but at least Obama isn't lowering himself to make any remark about this. Why don't you righties detach this fringe birther movement from your party and call it what it is: idiocy, plain and simple. I'm starting to think the righties don't want to be politically relevant anymore.

Apt name.

Try here, it's got all the appropriate footnotes.

Then perhaps explain why President Obama should spend one nanosecond of his time on this rubbish when he's got vital and relevant things to do?

Us "Libs" (as opposed to you "Cons") aren't afraid of what we might find. See, we already know the facts. ("Facts", you could look it up in the dictionary).

I can't believe this woman went on the Colbert Report! Didn't she recognize his sarcasm and ridicule?

Who's this orly taitz anyway? She looks like boehner in a wig. She doesn't even know the us constitution and history and she has the guts to go against obama? If a person is born in the US it doesn't matter if the parents are citizens or not. I bet you that orly's parents are not americans so according to her, she too cannot be a citizen. Therefore she doesn't qualify to be the loudest voice for the birther movement.

I dunno, I think she's uniquely qualified to be the voice of the birther movement.

God bless you, Steven Colbert (if you REALLY are Steven Colbert, or perhaps, notice I merely said perhaps, Fu Manchu). Best part of this seg: that fruitcake's statement that the German army would not have followed Hitler's orders if Der Fuerhrer were not a natural-born German citizen. Ha! Can you say Braunau am Inn, Austria? But wait, there's only his birth certificate to prove it. What am I thinking?

Wasn't it bad enough that the Russians foisted Ayn Rand on us? Now Orly Taitz!?!?!?! Is there any bottom in the depths of Russians' contempt for us?

I do not know, but it is a documented fact that they (KGB) have done it before. To think, our patriotic to the max neocons are following the lead of a native born Soviet in an attack on a sitting US President.

Boggles the mind here.

Any truth to that?

The fact that she would deny it -proves- it's true! And if there's no evidence, that just proves how clever she is at covering her tracks!

I tell you, anyone who isn't able to prove they're NOT a KGB agent working under instructions from Stalin sealed into time capsules in the 40's is probably just that. Proof to the contrary is just good planning.

Hey, Ayn Rand got work in the Soviet Union in the twenties because of her party connections. Anything is possible.

This is embarassing to watch, besides all the other crap and there is a lot of it, one aspect of their arguement is beyond debate, it is clearly wrong. They argue that even if he was born in the US that he is still not a citizen because his father wasn't. OH MY GOD. Where did these people go to school? Even children born in the country to two ILLEGAL immigrants are citizens from birth. Let alone a child born to one US citizen and one LEGAL immigrant.

In a way having these people devote their money and time to this idiotic cause is a good thing, at least they're not involving themselves in important things like the healthcare and cap and trade debates.

As a Republican senator remarked in a recent interview, you would have to accept that the Hawaiian newspaper had falsified Obama's birth announcement some 48 years earlier. This elaborate (to say the least) conspiracy would be in anticipation of......what? That alone is beyond comprehension, but to your point, yes....one also has to imagine that Obama's mother somehow flew to Kenya to give birth in between documented times when she is known to have been in the US. I haven't seen this mentioned much, but unless you buy into the utterly wrong-headed claim that Hawaii wasn't a state at the time, it's relevant.....
