Hutchison

U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison said in a radio interview that she expects to step down from the Senate around October or November to battle fellow Republican Rick Perry for governor.

In an interview Wednesday on WBAP-AM of Fort Worth and Dallas, Hutchison said she wants to stay in the Senate long enough to fight President Barack Obama's healthcare plan. She said her departure will be some time in "October, November, in that time frame."

She again said that she'll officially launch her gubernatorial campaign in August.

The Republican senior senator from Texas said that, in effect, she gave Perry a free pass four years ago when she decided not to run against him. She said he's now trying to stay in the job too long.

Bill White, the very effective mayor of Houston, has announced his intentions to run as a Democrat, for the US Senate seat in next spring's special election.

Any progressive, that wants another intelligent Democrat in the US Senate should start supporting Bill White's campaign NOW!! Texans are fed up and embarassed by some of the GOP loonies that make national headlines.

We progressives, here in Texas, believe that we can turn Texas blue, within the next few election cycles. With help from our compatriots, throughout the US, we can send a message to the GOP!!

Please, help Bill White's campaign!!

What just chaps my Texas A S S is that it was well known in the last election this was going to happen and we just could not get the dimwitted Republicans in this state to realize it.

She is a follower, not a leader but the bible thumpers love her and big business (OIL) donates to her. I honestly believe she does not believe in half the things she votes for but is too driven for power and office to vote her own mind and does what she is told. Check out her record... she NEVER crosses the party line.

Please God (if there is one) let my fellow Texans get a clue.

I agree! Kay the private citizen, in priivate coversations, is nothing like the Kay you see on TV. I've met and spoken with her several times and do not believe she is as conservative as she appears to be. She can be very outspoken and is so warm to the people she meets. I'm on the opposite end of the political spectrum, but she impresses me until she goes back into "Senator" mode. She's done a very good job of pandering to some of the larger companies in Texas. I don't want her to be governor, or senator.

This is going to be interesting. Which one of these two will kiss the most butt for the very-much-needed and popular Hispanic vote?

Neither, because to be honest it's really not needed in Texas. Texas is still, no matter what anyone tells you, a very red state. Whoever wins the Rep spot in the primaries will undoubtedly win the general election.

When a republican senator says she/he is there "to fight President Barack Obama's healthcare plan" instead of to "help shape health care reform" why don't the American people see that as clear cut obstructionism?? That should be the death knell. But it isn't???? WTF

A mostly conservative woman w 16 years in the Senate vs a secessionist wingnut --- should be a no brainer. But then this is the state that produced Tom Delay and Jim Wright.
