CHICAGO (AP) -- Gov. Pat Quinn plans to declare Mark Buehrle (BER'-lee) Day in Illinois to honor the White Sox pitcher who threw a perfect game.

Quinn will be at the ballpark Thursday to honor Buehrle, who threw a perfect game last week against the Tampa Bay Rays. It was only the 18th perfect game in major league history.

A Sox fan, Quinn has already ideas for Buehrle's post-baseball career when that time comes.

Quinn says Buehrle should consider running for a spot in the Illinois Legislature because he's the kind of modest, hardworking, team player the state needs.
