These are all good points but we need to go further. Individual Americans need to take more personal responsibility for their own health and well being to effectively reduce long term costs. Add this into some much needed reforms in the system itself and we got ourselves a winner. As a full time hospital pharmacist I've spent hours researching healthcare reform and here's my solutions - http://bit.ly/9QLV8

this is pretty sad. Obama, you are talking too much. Leave healthcare alone. It is dumb to talk about healthcare when you do not have a bill in place. Just wait for a bill to be written, stop letting the blue dogs punk you like a little boy, and spend this time trying to get the our money back from the banks, stop the foreclosures, address our anti-american trade policy so we can start making things again, and force real regulations on the financial sector. Once you have a bill, then go out and sell it. Stop trashing your own party. I'm a Republican and I find nothing wrong with being Liberal or Progressive. I do find everything wrong with being Conservative. If you keep this up, you will doom your party to Conservatives just like Ronald Reagan doomed mine.

Obama the candidate campaigned against special interests running our country.

He has caved in favor of every last one of them to the tune of 19Million dollars for starters.

Change you can believe in is OVER.

Please help keep this going all of August, every where possible!

An impressive list already and can we further this movement during August?

Hope and change, everyday is another story. Less willing to fight.

How does a referendum start?? Any knowledge?

Instead of generic, talking points, why can’t the president just come out and say or post the following:
1. How much will it cost me (individual, individual/spouse, family)
2. What’s my co-pay
3. How much is my yearly deductable
4. What is my yearly cap
5. How much are prescriptions
6. Will I have a mail order prescription plan
7. …
These are all things an HR department can give you in a one or two page document that highlights the coverage’s contained in their company provided insurance plan. Why can’t the president give us the same thing? I have no doubt that my employer will drop my coverage because times are tough and they are looking to cut costs any way they can. Show me the same thing and I may be more interested in the govt's plan. Right now, all I hear are a lot of promises and very few specifics.

(asked honestly) Why is Obama being so conciliatory?

My pro-Obama work and stance is clear from my posting history.

I am concerned why he is so pro-insurance here.

I think you misread the plan. If his principles are put into law insurance companies will soon be out of business. I think that is the plan all along.

I think you misread and he has no intentions of putting them out of business. Go get his latest requirements for reform. No public option.

THE RELIGIOUS EXEMPTION

Heads up to single payer advocates distrustful of these pro-corporate bills.

Ch below wrote: "You forgot the exemption you can apply for...for religious reasons"

Actually it is harder than you think. I spent two days looking into this; comparing the new Mass tax forms, talking to other lawyers about it. Reading various draft legislation. The most likely scenario is that ON YOUR TAXES you have to sign under oath that in the last 18 months you have sought NO medical treatment and that includes that you cannot go to the dentist, the eye doctor, a chiropractor or a counselor. Just thought some of you might want to know.

I am a strong advocate of single payer or a good public option but so far our bought out Congress has only come up with make the companies richer crud.

How does a referendum start?? Any knowledge? Can we do this? National referendum over riding Obamas choice?

Put those eight points in a bill, less then one page, bring it to the floor of the house & Senate now. It would pass in a heart beat. Why do we need 1000 plus pages of legalese?

I don't think you could put a proposal to build a city park on one page. This is complex. It concerns existing social programs, private insurance, doctors, malpractice, hospitals, disabilities, pre-existing conditions - just to name some off the top of the head. The only simple fix would be to trash everything and start over, and that is not viable.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:45 PM on 07/29/2009

We are not building a city park from scratch. Tthis is suppose to be reform not re=creation.

Great, no legislation can consist of more than eight bullet points on e one page. That worked so well for Dubya's morning briefing.

Reality is complex. Governing is complex. Legislation can't be that simple. Start living in reality.

Page 30 sec 123 of HC bill- Government committee will decide what treatment you receive.
Page 59 lines 21-24 Government will have direct access to your bank accounts for transfer of funds
Page 167 lines 18-23 if the government does not believe you have acceptable health coverage you will be taxed 2.5% of your annual income, unless of course you are illegal, page 170 lines 1-3 non-resident aliens are exempt from individual tax mandate
Page 317-318 Government prohibits hospital expansions
Page 124 lines 24-25 NO company can sue government for price fixing
You just might want to try actually reading some of this crap coming out of this HR 3200 health care reform bill before you champion legislation. Health care reform I'm all for, this is not what we bargained for. 1018 pages, a billion dollars a page, start reading.

More . . . "reform" . . . .

Under the Democrats' plans, if a medical school wants to receive contracts and grants from the federal government, it must operate under a quota system and be able to prove it. On Page 909, the House bill states: "In awarding grants or contracts under this section, the (HHS) secretary shall give preference to entities that have a demonstrated record of the following: ... training individuals who are from underrepresented minority groups or disadvantaged backgrounds."

Criminally negligent manslaughter occurs where there is an omission to act when there is a duty to do so, or a failure to perform a duty owed, which leads to a death.

Anyone trying to stop health care, for any human being, has blood on their hands.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:24 PM on 07/29/2009

And more people die of cancer in countries that have national healthcare. Does that mean that if we pass the bill you will have blood on your hands? Not wanting to scrap the best healthcare system in the world and replace it with a system that is failing everywhere is it used is not evil.
