The CEO's pay themselves well considering they make their money off the people who are actually working hard. They can pay for their own lunches when they want to meet the President. And who is really surprised that Bush paid for CEO lunches out of an entertainment budget. Entertainment suggests that sat around and talked about sports and boobs or something. No wonder.......
Sorry Letitia, but the country is a whole lot more broke than the days when Jackie was serving up lunch. It is long past time that CEO's started paying for their own lunches; they can afford it, whereas the taxpayers cannot. You may find it "laughable", but there is nothing "laughable" about CEO behavior these days, and there is nothing "laughable" about the debt that we are stuck paying off on their behalf. We taxpayers, and our children, and our grandchildren are on the (major) hook for bailing out many of these b*st*rds, and their ilk, and most of us don't anticipate getting an invitation for lunch at the Rose Garden in return; so you can take your etiquette and stuff it, along with the braised pheasant.....
They also bought Sasha and Malia's playground themselves, and declined the 100k they're allowed of taxpayer money to redecorate the White House as they see fit. If it's not explicitly an issue of policy that is showing up somewhere in the federal budget, it's not coming from the taxpayer's pocket.
I love the way Obama makes a point. He really let them know that taxpayers are done paying their way.

In the early 60's Letitia Baldrige, from JK’s White House staff, probably didn't have the issue of ethics violations to consider the need for dining guests to pay. This doesn't appear to fall in the catagory of proper etiquette or recouping the high cost of a meal (a ridiculous suggestion in the article).
