Prostitution Protests Held By Ukrainian Students

Experts say that there are 12,000 prostitutes in Ukraine, many of whom are students trying to make ends meet in difficult times. One group has found creative -- and sometimes abrasive -- ways to let foreign tourists know that "Ukraine is no whorehouse."

I live abotu 9 months a year in Odessa Ukraine and Chisinau Moldova and say the facts in this story are somewhat distorted.

Only 12,000 hookers in Ukraine? What a crock. There's that many in Odessa alone.

Not at all unusual to find guys from the west fly in for a weekend of sex tourism.

Things aren't as bad as they were a decade ago when half the waitresses and clerks were 'available'. Still, a few Euro go a long way toward turning the girl next door into a sem-pro.

Those are the ones that stay in country. A very large portion of the pros in western Europe come from Ukraine or neighboring Moldova.

And those are the ones that do it voluntarily. There is a major problem with sex trafficing; poor girls from the villages promised a nanny or waitress job in the wes, only to find their passports seized and they having to 'work off' the costs of their upkeep.

Well if you go there and you find it rather easy to transfer a certain amount of cash into a certain amount of sexual favors I would submit that you are a whorehouse.

Now do yourself a favor and legalize it, tax it and make sure that you charge all the market will bear.

Oh, and nice picture. Nothing says your not a whorehouse like a dozen scantily clad women holding up a sign in such suggestive manner.
