Also the only reason the Alderman and the Mayor are siding with the Unions is to keep the campaign contributions rolling in.
That is the ONLY reason there's even any debate at all:

Well as someone who actually lives in the neighborhood, I say yes to Wal-mart. The store is needed in OUR community, for jobs, no matter how low the pay is. Also with the crime wave thats spreading thru the south side of Chicago, maybe the teenagers could have jobs instead of shooting each other to death.
To all of you people who sympathize with Wal-Mart over them not wanting the unions to be allowed to bully their way into their stores, well that the unions would have never have tried to do so had Wal-Mart treated its workers fairly in the 1st place. And do you not think calling millions of people in Chicago is not bullying? Think Wal-Mart!! Do you think opening countless stores across America (let alone the world) is not bullying? Think Wal-Mart!! Do you think selling opening "Super-stores" putting local grocery CHAINS is not bullying? Think Wal-Mart!!
And Finally, do you think that buy selling mostly Chinese,Taiwan & Japanese S**T on the cheap, and in the process putting hardworking Americans out of work is not bullying? Think Wal-Mart!!
The next time you sheep think you are saving a buck shopping there, I hope, no I pray to God that you run into your children collecting carts, because the way this country is going, and with Americans not caring where they buy products from...tha
Chicagoans don't want Wal-Mart coming in and destroying our small business owners. I answered NO when they called me. I've never been in one and I never plan to either.
Actually, I used to think that Wal-Mart hurts small businesses, but apparently that's not true at all. After hearing a piece on NPR about a year ago, the majority of business owners in the Austin neighborhood were flourishing because of the increased traffic Wal-Mart brought into the area. Alot of the local businesses needed to expand, and purchase more inventories.
But even it did hurt other businesses, I'm having trouble seeing why that is bad. Don't consumers win when businesses compete?
And why is it the role of government to make these decisions anyways? Have you read the Constitution? If they have the money, and want to purchase an empty lot overgrown with weeds, and the owner wants to sell it to them (for a nice profit), why should the City Council have any say?
I wouldn't shop at Wal-Mart if they paid me to. I think the last time I was in one of their stores, I was ignored by three cashiers for 10-15 mins while they "caught up" with their day, not to mention how they went from being so proud to be one of the only stores in America to sell only American made products to telling China how to make what they sell.
My wife and I have never shopped at wal mart, and hope we never have to buy their merchandise made in China.
