West Bank

nytimes.com:

NERIA, West Bank In this land of endless history and ethereal beauty, several thousand Jewish settlers gathered on a dozen West Bank hills with makeshift huts and Israeli flags over several days this week to mark an invented anniversary and defy the American president, conveying to his aides visiting Jerusalem what they thought of his demand for a settlement freeze.

If thats how they want to play this i am all for completely cutting all aid to Israel both financial and millitary , We cant afford it and if they want to flip us off after all we have done let them make their own way . While we are at it we can stop vetoing every thing in the Un Security council that they dont like too . Independence means you stand on your own feet , no umbrella no big brother standing behind you to cover your back

Disgraceful rhetoric (with Netanyahu reportedly in the verbal lead) by a group of folks who are used to having the US as their lapdog as they break international law over decades. How many of the settlers in these illegal settlements are "Jews posing as Americans" via the miracle of dual citizenship? How about we prosecute them for violation of the law when they come to the USA?

We should be watching and possibly restricting those coming into this country with an Israeli visa. Seriously.

I support Israel and support these settlers' right to peacefully demonstrate. Accepting US aid should
not take away their right to peacefully demonstrate.

The issue is not whether those who would continue to expropriate Arab lands have the right to free speech.

Israel took that land in a defensive war (1967). They are willing to return the land if the Arabs are willing to work with them to achieve a just and lasting peace.

Jews have lived in Judea/Samaria since ancient times.

Israel's citizens have a right to demonstrate and express their opinions peacefully.

I wonder if these h8-mongers realize that President Obama may not consider being called an Arab an insult.

That probably really bugs them.

He does rather resemble an Egyptian. Quite a compliment, I'd say.

Another glorious testament to superstition (ie, religious belief).

During the 1990's Israel absorbed close to one million settlers from the former Soviet Union, however Jewish people from Ethiopia are shunned by Israel. If this is not racism, then what is?

Can anyone give me a link about this alleged discrimination by Israel toward Ethiopian Jews? I've heard about "Operation Moses" where Israel rescued Ethiopian Jews, and I know Israel still helps Ethiopian Jews from Gondar come to Israel, but I haven't heard about this discrimination.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Moses

This is the only time I know of when thousands of blacks were brought out of Africa as free citizens instead of as slaves. I would question the statement that Zionism is racism.

Don't be faceitious - do the research yourself - and if you are right in your suppositions than you can come back on here and post your refutations a mile high.

If the U.S. really wanted to improve relations with the Muslim world, calm things down in the Mid-East, or back up it's rhetoric about Human Rights, it would do everything in it's power, and in the U.N.'s power, to force Israel to do a 180 in their policies toward the Palestinians.

"so hamas is not the only crazy/radical/delusional/fanatic lot in middle-east...we have another winner (settlers)..."

I see nothing crazy, delusional or indeed radical about Hamas. Hamas's cause is to liberate the palestinian territory by force of arms - to establish a state for the palestinians.

This is considered a laudable enterprise when done by people we agree with - for instance, American Patriots who liberated the USA from British rule, by force of arms or Irish citizens who formed the IRB / IRA and thereby ended British colonial rule.

The armed insurgent is always a "terrorist" and a "fanatic" according to the occupier. But is seen as a hero and a liberator by the oppressed.

Guerilla warfare is dirty and viscious, and in Israel/Palestine is doubly so because it is fought by two historically opressed people who are closely related. Thus it has elements of a civil war - and they are always the worst.
