Earmarks are such a non-issue. They represent less than 1% of the budget, but comprise 75% of people's griping about Congress.

This story isn't just about the fact that they are placing earmarks in the bills it's the conflict of interest that they are investigating the ties between members of congress and certain defense contractor lobbying firms at the same time that they are procuring earmarks for them. That stinks.

I don't think earmarks are always a bad thing or at least not used for completely wasteful and ridiculous projects but many times they are and in this case there is an appearance of a pretty strong conflict of interest.

And that 1% with interest is a noose around the neck for the next generation! That 1% is the difference between hundreds of unemployed families staying in their homes or living on the streets. To you it may be simply 1% but to many, it is the difference between life and death. And when you have no money, 1% is a lot. Though I am sure China appreciates your out look on the matter, as an unemployed parent of two, I don't.
