BBC NEWS :

There is fresh hope that the world's depleted fisheries can be saved from collapse, says a team of researchers.

They said that efforts introduced to halt overfishing in five of the 10 large marine ecosystems they examined were showing signs of success.

A combination of measures - such as catch quotas, no-take zones, and selective fishing gear - had helped fish stocks recover, they added.

The ocean is acidifying and overfishing is one of the reason.

Doesn't sound like much hope...if you're a fish.

Love how humans have to "manage" other species, so we can exploit them.

Me - I like to eat, and I think it's a great idea that humans cooperate to sustain the populations of the species we eat - and the ones we don't - otherwise WE'RE toast..

As a schoolboy in the early 1960's I remember watching those "educational films" trotted out every month or so. Disney specialized in them and so did the famous "Coronet Films".
If I remember correctly, one example, "Where Does Our Meat Come From? (1960)" had a segment that outlined some rather impressive promises about the oceans.
The narrator almost waxed poetic about how "someday the oceans will become the breadbasket for the entire world".
On and on he prattled, even promising that someday ORDINARY meat and vegetable will be raised in undersea farms across the Atlantic and Pacific.
It's this sort of grandiose and overly optimistic twattle crammed into the heads of millions of young minds that leads us to the point where we are today.
We were all promised a 21st century with personal robots for every man, woman and child, flying cars, unlimited energy, and of course unlimited food.
Incredible mental pictures of vast pristine utopias, bounded by limitless energy and technology all at our disposal were implanted into our minds in that era, and unfortunately most Republicans still believe all that crappola.
The rest of us grew up.

This is great news. Our natural food sources are our best hope going into the future.

How about reducing the human population to a level that does not require us to encroach on or destroy so many of the ecosystems around us. Many scientist are already warning that the global human population is well past the food production of capability of the planet.

Birth control? That would be a sin and thus probably won't happen.

Small amounts of good news helps, I guess.
How about the shrimp boats that kill tons of fish, so called waste to get several pounds of shrimp?
Get rid of all of them but hook and line.
