Marvin Grant, MC Hammer's Cousin, Accused Of Raping Woman He Met On Twitter

LIVERMORE, Calif. — Police in Northern California say a cousin of rapper MC Hammer has been accused of raping a woman he met on the social networking site Twitter.

KPIX-TV reports that 33-year-old Marvin Grant was arrested for investigation of rape Thursday in the sexual assault of a 40-year-old woman who arranged to meet him at a Livermore hotel Wednesday night.

Livermore Police Lt. Matt Sarsfield says the two developed a romantic relationship over e-mails and phone calls.

Police say Grant attacked the woman after she declined his advances.

Grant, who is also known as Marv, appears on the rapper's reality show on the A&E cable network. The show follows the rapper and his family at his Tracy home.

It wasn't immediately whether Grant had a lawyer.

I'm guessing the marketing department at A&E is pleased to see this story getting some press, since Hammertime is a reality show flop. Maybe this will drum up some interest.

Question: If he was someone else cousin, would this even be reported as news. . . . . and aren't most people who are charged with crimes related to someone?

The next thing you know, they will start to include people who are friends of a friend of a person's cousin -- but as long as a person is "ahem" a minority and within six degrees of separation of a person alleged of committing a crime, there's nothing wrong with tagging a person's name to the headline of an article based on that allegation.
