Media Matters has released its ad targeting Lou Dobbs over his promotion of the "birthers" movement. The ad is set to appear on CNN during Dobbs' program Tuesday, and will appear on Fox News and MSNBC as well.

In the commercial, Media Matters calls for CNN to address the Dobbs situation more seriously than it has thus far.

"It's time for 'The Most Trusted Name in News' to live up to its slogan," the commercial proclaims. "Let CNN know there's nothing 'legitimate' about racially charged paranoia."

Upon learning of the ad campaign, Dobbs called Media Matters "a rabid, left-wing operation."

I take my hat off to Lou Dobbs. Journalism has gone by way of the dinosaurs. It is non-existent any more. Thank you Lou for reporting the news and allowing the public to interpret it. The bias now a days is unbelievable. Journalists, and I use the term loosely, don't even hide it any more. They will learn their lesson the hard way. I wonder what they are going to do in 2010 when we take control of congress and render their Messiah into a lame duck.

Dobbs can't even say the words correctly.
Watch the video again. He's saying:
"Birr Certificate."

Dobbs has turned to the dark side. Didn't he see Star Wars? There's no future in it.

Dobbs need to go. And if CNN doesn't see it that way, maybe they need to go also. People turn CNN off.

I believe you're right. It's a fact CNN has gone a long way down from the glorious Ted Turner days 2 decades ago. Now it's a shadowy manufacturer of tabloid "news" that's not fit to rebroadcast. The numbers show fewer and fewer TV viewers buy the dropping quality of drivels like from Lou Dobbs on CNN.

Dobbs spent 20 years supporting corporate america, indeed, making a very nice living stroking them. In a 180 degree turn, he now claims to be a champion for the conservative work-ethic middle class viewer, not unlike his small town neighbors back in Rupert -- who absolutely depend on migrant workers to keep their farms profitable, yet look upon them as a second-class non-citizens. This economic and social dichotomy has spurred decades of racial tension in both Rupert and Dobbs. The immigration debates seemed to be the tipping point, causing Dobbs to rail against both corporate outsourcing and broken borders, blaming corporations and foreigners for the demise of the middle class.

Is Dobbs cynically chasing the ratings dragon, or has his deep rooted hatred for the immigrant minority workers finally surfaced? Or, both? We often hate the very thing we cannot live without. Just as the farmers in Rupert would not have a crop without the migrant worker yet despise them for it, Dobbs cannot accept the ascension of a minority into the White House. As Mullins notes, you can take the kid off the farm, pay him millions, but you can't take the farm from the kid.

Dobbs roots are showing.

Can there truly be such a thing as a "conservative work-ethic middle class" person? These people have been duped into voting against their best economic interest over and over again for the last 30 years because the Republican Party implemented the "Southern Strategy" and convinced the evangelical movement that they were on their side. What will it take to get these folks in one room have a good look at each other and realize that none of them have anything in common? I take that back. Perhaps what they do have in common is their latent racism. It has become more apparent with this birth certificate crap.

20 years ago, corporations weren't 'Pigs At The Trough" as they have been the last 10 years. Read Arianna's book. Dobbs is an economist. Capitalism wasn't out of control as it is now. He admitted to being hoodwinked for several years but came to see what was really going on and spoken out since for the benefit of the middle class workers. I haven't seen or heard anyone else doing so.
Sure, he is being petty about Obama's birth certificate, but so are we about anyone who doesn't think or do as we wish. We are as petty as you accuse him of being.
If he irritates you, I guess you really enjoy Rush Limbaugh's squallor of opinions.
I'll take Lou's opinions over the Rights mouthpieces anyday. I'm an Independent, and he makes sense to me on most things other than this birther thing. So he doesn't like Obama---it's his choice--I won't condemn him nor agree with him on that. I focus on what is good for our country--not my personal feelings.
We're going under folks, and you want to play petty games over this???

If Don Imus had to hit the bricks for inadvertent yet hurtfully racist remarks, surely Lou Dobbs' pointed, repeated and repugnant racism is ample reason for his early retirement. If Imus put no apparent effort into his racist remarks, Dobbs is the plodding, consistent, one-foot-in-front-of -the-other, practice-makes-perfect kind of racist. If he does not realize he offends most Americans with his xenophobic and vile commentary against people of color, then his cluelessness offers further evidence he should be let roam the upper paddock of punditry past its prime. CNN need not fire Mr. Dobbs, but if he continues on the air, local governing authorities which regulate cable television need not allow CNN to continue to be offered to subscribers. There are plenty of cable news channels, including most which do not regularly feature racists in prime time. Maybe viewers would like to see CBC or ITN instead. Perhaps an extra Spanish-language news channel to serve that growing market?

Lou Dobbs should be fired, plain and simple. Then he can join the ranks of the nut jobs on Fox News, where he belongs.

This whole chapter on birthers, is great fun. Both sides have lost total control and proved their IQs are below average.. Please keep me entertained.

Lou Dobbs is NOT "just delivering the news." He has made a career of continually broadcasting spurious information, knowing it is spurious and likely casting people in a false, disparaging light, and yet he offered his audience no points of clarification or counter viewpoints.

The result is that he deceives members of his audience on a regular basis and uses his shows to cast aspersion at individuals and groups.

I call that unethical and borderline criminal. It is certainly propaganda of a most troubling sort.

That Lou Dobbs is given the prominence he has must be a symptom of some spiritual and moral sickness infecting the bowels of an increasingly dysfunctional management at CNN.

Lou Dobbs is one of the main reasons I won't watch CNN. He's disguestingly hateful and no reporter at all. Any organization that employs this caliber of person is a wast of time IMO.

I wonder if America will look back at this time in history and be ashamed of itself?

No doubt. For the majority of Americans, the way of ignorance in the past is was and still is an embarrassing time. Especially with America's exploding "minority" population, there will be less and less room for this kind of blatant racist and xenophobic nonsense. But misery loves company, there will be those that will long for the good ol' days. Not unlike the Pat Buchanan's of the world. And if health care doesn't get passed, America will REALLY loon back at this time and be ashamed.

I try to look at the bright side. America's Rei.ch wing -- at least so far -- has resorted to character a.ssa.ssination against Obama (as it did against Clin.ton), rather that actual a.ssa.ssination, as it did against J.FK.

It is really sad that Lou Dobbs has become so unhinged that his career has come to this. I rather doubt that CNN will renew his contract if he continues on in this vein. Pathetic.

And to think that CNN once begged him to come back. You are right, it is pathetic to see a great career disintegrate like this.
