Weekend Wardrobe: Obamas Head To Camp David, First Granny Embraces Fashion (PHOTOS)

On Saturday morning, the Obamas boarded Marine One for their usual weekend retreat: Camp David. (To read more about Camp David and see photos, click here.)

The first lady wore a white eyelet skirt, lavender tank, and matching cardigan with her favorite silver ballet shoes. Malia follow in her footsteps with red flats and her own pair of white capris, a pant style that's one of the first lady's favorites.

The weekend's real break-out star, however, was the Marian 'First Granny' Robinson, who stepped it up with a pair of brown wedge heels, and accessorized an all-white outfit with a floral scarf-as-belt.

I do not agree politically with the Obamas but this is a lovely family that the American people can be proud of. It is clear that they love each other and want to spend time together. I am so pleased that their lovely daughters have the opportunity to spend time with their grandmother and learn from her.
She adds much to their lives we should encourage and be thankful that she is there providing a sense of security and well being to the family.

Yes they have that effect on me as well! Such a lovely, lovely family :) They are intelligent, happy, inspiring, elegant, stylish and committed to their marriage and family. And I just want to give them a big hug. lol! In my adult life I have never felt this way about another First Family....so proud of them all.

But I won't sit quietly while you say that the Obamas pay for her expenses. That simply is not true. There are many things that she enjoys just by living in the WH, or going everywhere with the Obamas, that the Obamas don't pay for.

so what if she "enjoys" perks of the wh?? many, many perks don't cost any money.

a friend who gets me into movie screenings and tv show recordings because he's in the industry. i even went to the oscars one year. great perks that i enjoyed but none of it cost him or his company a dime.

just like it doesn't cost taxpayers a dime for mrs. robinson to fly on af1 with the president or get a tour of buckingham palace with the first lady.

It seems like you folks have forgotten. The President had said that he would use Camp David as a temporary home church. It seems like he has been doing just that. It appears as though he has been faithfully attending church there, and listeneing to the Southern Baptist Chaplain. Amen to that.

In all the pictures with First Grandmother, she is lagging a few steps behind, this is understandable. However, as children we were never permitted to allow an older person to walk unaccompan;ied. It is a small courtesy, but one of the children or one of the adults, should stay behind and walk at a slower pace with Grandma. It is just simple respect. Maybe it's a security issue or something, but it always looks a bit odd to me. I have seen this same behavior in other photos, They seem like very polite girls,
I just wish they would show some deference to Grandma.

The Obamas are fortunate to have each other. They are obviously very close and I think that just irritates a lot of people. They don't fit the stereotype. I'm sure they are not a perfect family, but there is no such thing, but clearly they are all in this together. "Vacation"? They went for the weekend, minutes away from the White House by Marine One. They left on Saturday morning. He returned Sunday afternoon. This is a vacation?!? When you're working 24/7/365 (you think he doesn't get briefings on these weekends?!), you get a little time off.

There is an expense to living at the White House for the POTUS, all of them.

The Obama's have to pay for all of their own food/beverages, and for the food/beverages for any personal guests they have at the White House. They do not have to pay for meals that are business-related.

All POTUS' get a residential budget to spend on decorating their private residence. The Obama's chose to pay this expense out of their own pockets.

There are some personal expenses for the POTUS while living at the White House. Besides this, they still have their home in Chicago that they have to pay for while living in DC.

during the great depression and wwII, FDR practically turned the wh into a hotel. his secretary and mistresses lived there. eleanor's girlfriend lived there. several cabinet members lived there. truman's mother in law lived there.

most presidents have had extended family living in the wh but nobody cared, until the president was black.

fyi, mrs. robinson has no ss protection. it costs nothing for her to fly on af1 or marine1 with the rest of the family. it costs nothing extra for her to live in an extra wh room. she pays her own way.

The media has always reported the Presidential perks with each new POTUS. People just weren't paying this much attention until we elected a black POTUS.

The President gets at least 2 custom-made, identical cars, a helicopter fleet, a full military, a fully-staffed national monument to live in rent free (which comes with a movie theater & every movie that's released, a bowling alley, swimming pool, etc), and a host of other perks.

But being POTUS also comes with great cost. They lost all privacy, freedom of speech, freedom of expression, they have 24 hour guards at all times, etc.

That is simply unrealistic. She's paying for being transported all over town to lunches and events? Does she clean her own rooms, do her own clothes, pay for her own cleaning? How can they pay for her going on AF1 to Russia and Italy, and being given the red-carpet treatment?

I'm actually ambivalent on her living and going everywhere the Obamas go. It was easier to be ambivalent when she still actually had time to monitor the girls, something that fell by the wayside a couple of months ago. But I think bringing the grandmother along might have some stabilizing impact on the girls.

Presidential first families do get have to pay for some of their expenses. They also get do get some considerable perks.

I didn't see this level of concern with previous first families, and I suspect it does have something to do with jealousy and sore-loser spite, if not outright race bias.

1. mrs. robinson does NOT get transported across town for her personal use. NEVER. only if she is doing something "official" like when she read to school children last week. she has her own car and drives herself.

2. she doesn't get protection.

3. the wh staff is on salary. they are paid the same whether the they clean for 1 person or 20 people. so mrs. robinson does not cost extra.

4. look at the rules: the president is allowed to take any guest he wants along on af1. every president has done the same thing. it doesn't cost a penny extra for her to fly on af1. every president takes guests. clinton frequently took his mother in law on af1.

5. fyi, there is no cost for her to have the red carpet treatment along with the obama family. they are guests of the foreign government. do you actually think russia charges for tickets for a tour of the kremlin????

6. jackie & jfk had a live-in nanny. no one complained that she lived in the white house. same thing.

7. whatever mrs. robinson does or does not do as a babysitter for the girls is none of your business!! if it's OK with michelle, it OK with me.

8. henry hopkins & wife, lorena hickock, missy lehand are just three of the many people who lived in the fdr wh FOR YEARS. this was during the great depression and the war.

they don't have pay for the "red carpet" treatment by foreign governments because they are guests. no country charges its visiting guests (no matter how large the party) for rolling out the red carpet.
