May the truth prevail!
I can't wait until they make this into a movie.

While Dan Rather was sometimes embarrassing as an anchor, he was and remains a great reporter.

I wish him luck with his suit and would love for him to expose how CBS has totally compromised what was once the best television news division in the world and how they capitulated to the Bushies and other corporate interests.

I saw the 60 Minutes II piece that got Rather and others fired at CBS and knowing what influence the Bush family have, the allegations made in the piece didn't surprise me!

Neither did the outcome for Rather, his staff, and the entire demise of the program!

So if Rather can nail CBS on this, and maybe bring back some impartiality in network news, so much the better!!

The secretary who typed the original corrorborated its correctness, but she was bruhed aside. I never understood why. Anybody else remember her? And the birthers get a foothold. Wow.

Hey, he is grabbing for another 15 minutes of exposure on the news and this under the radar. Can he beat the executives? They have a lot of money and high paid lawyers, stay tuned for the next event in this soap opera.....

Rather will win the suit, just as network news goes the way of the Dodo.

My only regret is that Dan Rather isn't suing for more -- and that I can't be on the jury.

Dan Rather earned his credentials as one of the CBS principals who penetrated Richard Nixon's Watergate affairs, and he is an EXCELLENT reporter.... True enough, he was sort of a glamour guss as an anchor, but remained a reporter through and through throughout his career.... I'm glad someone is taking a lightweight like Les Moonves to task for, among other things, paying three times market value to another lightweight in Katie Couric, whose only reporter-cred stems from her softballs to Sarah Palin's ridiculousness, and almost no other achievement of any depth. Good luck to Rather!!!

There's nothing funny about corporate-owned media outlets throwing objective news under the propoganda bus.

I support Dan Rather and believe he has a credible case against CBS. The essence of why he was dissed by them was the document/s that were submitted in his report which was in regard to Bushs military service or rather lack thereof. The fact is that the document he was given was a forgery because it was not the exact document which the government actually had had as a record of Bushs service. But, what was a fact was what the document revealed and all of it was in absolutely true. The Secretary who worked for Bushs Superior in the Squadron he had been assigned to had her create a document detailing Bushs lack of compliance with his duties. She said that while the document Which Rather showed the public was not in fact that same one, the gist of it was spot on. I believe someone intentionally gave Rather a reworked document in order to make him look bad and to submarine anyone who would have liked to continue the subject of Bushs AWOL Service record. By sabotaging Rather they put the issue to rest once and for all. Any Reporter who would have tried to keep pushing the point would risk the same treatment. I think this Sabotage of Rather was highly orchestrated by people with a lot of connections. Rather should press the issue.

(Wish you believed in paragraphs because then a lot more people would read your worthy comments. Wish there were another way to communicate this to you, but public is the only way on Huff Post. )

Thank you for paying such close attention to our contemporary history. Well said.

I really don't think a couple of spaces make that big of a difference. If people don't read it, it is just because they don't read long posts.

Thanks for the advice. Sometimes when i get to thinking quickly and want to make the point without forgetting what I wanted to get across i just don't mind my grammar and such. I will try to consider this more in the future.
As for paying close attention to history, contemporary or otherwise, it was always one of my favorite subjects in School. Second to that was politics.
Once again, I appreciate the advice.

The historical question is.... Would the deceit of the last administration been possible if the uncompromising Dan Rather was sitting in that CBS anchor seat? I guess not. The outcome is that many Americans assume George W. Bush did actually show up for National Guard service because those documents were forged. Bush did NOT show up for National Guard service. Who set Rather up and what was their connection to Cheney?

I'm betting Dan knows a lot more than the on-going legal ramifications allow him to say right now.

Lord, let him live long enough to write the book.

Dan is a journalist after the model of Cronkite. This kind of excellent journalist is hard to find today.

Bush/Cheney wanted him shut up, so they destroyed the career of an excellent journalist. They would justify it in their own minds as "collateral damage".

We need Dan back, and more like him!

You said it all. As far as I am concerned that Administration was ripe with criminals and deceivers. With the way they went about things, even during their campaigns, I would not put anything past them in the way of subterfuge. My thoughts when it happened were almost immediately , that someone had willfully given Rather those documents. They had to look authentic and as nearly as possible accurate. Merely rearranging some type was enough to make them less than authentic and whoever gave them to Rather knew this. That someone was someone who Rather had either trusted or who was in a position to insist that he use them. Either way he was sabotaged.
