Politics in Chicago, like opera in Paris, is not for the faint of heart. Check out two great histories: "Boss" by Mike Royko and "Clout" by Len O'Connor; also remember that the Republican Party was created in Chicago by newspaper publisher Joseph Medill. The tricks he used to get Abe Lincoln nominated in 1860 are still legendary.

Emanuel is a good example of getting the job done without wimping out.

I hate the corruption here, but you have to sit back and enjoy the theatre of it. Like you said, politics here in Chicago is not for the faint of heart and I think that the whiners in the GOP just aren't used to someone getting right in their faces. This only proves what I beleived all along, the GOP is nothing but a bunch of school yard bullies. They like to blow hard, puff up their chest, and push people around, but the second someone confronts them, they slink away crying like baby.

Emanuel did nothing wrong by orchestrating the letter writing campaign. Emanuel simply stated that if you want to whine to the public that the stimulus program is not working, then feel free to give the money back. In other words, put your money where your mouth is.

What the Dems need to do is have everyone of their party members attend a seminar headed by Emanuel, sort of a communication workshop. There they will learn the effective communication tactics of the master, how to stick up for yourself, and how to effectively push through policy.

This opportunity may not present itself for a long time. The GOP is in shambles and has become nothing more than a punchline for late night comidiens, however if the Dems don't get off their posteriors, unite under their party, and pull off some sweeping changes they to will fall like the GOP.

Rahm takes his tactics not so much from Chicago politics as from the Igrun.

The word you're looking for is Irgun. Please fact-check your antiSemite rants or you'll be mistaken for a Birther.

What a laugh. Emmanuel packed the Democratic party with moderate Republicans ("Blue Dogs") and did everything he could to kill Dean's 50-state progressive strategy. Now Emmanuel is taking heat from progressives for selling out working Americans on health care, so he gets his GOP buddy to act as if Emmanuel is not himself a moderate plutocratic Republican, like all Centrists.
The Reagan Revolution is over.
Emmanuel managed to give it an extra two years of life, but in 2010 these Blue Dogs are history.

Rahm is invaluable to the White House and to the Dems for pushing the President's agenda out effectively and engaging the policy mavens, the legislators towards the White House's point of view on what needs to get done to implement the change they were voted in to effect. When you win a mandate, you work your own agenda and bring people along the way. You can't start out asking for the votes of those who didn't vote for you. You start with the ones who did and create the space for everyone to have inputs and share ideas. The losers don't get to set policy, they do get to participate and make suggestions. If their ideas didn't convince the electorate, why should they convince those whose ideas won out?

Republicans are catagorically laughable. They will resort to anything to disrupt and destroy those who challenge corporate interests, particularly private health insurance companies. They will lie and create malicious stories to manipulate people. Yet, when confronted with Emanuel, who can play raw big-league politics better than most, the GOP cry like victims and sissies. They suddenly become "virginal and principled". Rock on, Rahm!!!! They can choke on it. The GOP is a minority party for a reason.

Want to re-think that word "virginal"?

Judging by Rhambo's reaction to Rep Issa charge, I'd say he struck a nerve.

Why is that? He was a great congressman, you probably are not even in his district let alone state.

He didn't do anything as congressman, except pad his resume for the job he currently holds! Other than throwing senior citizen birthday parties, he did nothing for the average citizen in the 5th. He moved into the district to run for congress, and got elected in 2002 with the help of the Daley machine. I think Quigley, given the chance, will be a much better representative of the district. Now why was he a great congressman pirate bob, and where do you live?

What did he do that you are happy he no longer represents you? Back up your statement about why you dislike him so much.

PS: He was my congressman and he would have my vote everytime he ran. The man doesn't B/S and fights for what he believes in, and I happen to agree w/ 90-99% of it.

Fair enough, he was my congressman also, and I didn't agree with him any where near as often as you. I don't need a clown like Isswa to mention it, but I am sick to death of Chicago style politics! I believe Quigley isn't part of the corruption and lack of representation that Chicago style politics is all about. I hope he will be our congressman for a long time.

Isn't Darrell Issa an utter twit? I seem to remember him involved in some ridiculous nonsense in the early 2000's...
