so... no different from any english public school movie, gotcha.

everything (southern) english guys do seems a bit effeminate, it's just the way they are.

even the tough ones wear diesel jeans and too much hair product.

because there was absolutely nothing gay about a couple of british bachelors running about in period costumes, smoking pipes and solving mysteries. it had to be gayer. meh, I'll probably see it.

He was kidding! Did anyone not read the story?

And then, Fox, int their lack of wisdom, prints the quote from the NY Daily News as if it were real, knowing it was not.

Anyway, I would watch these two actors grappling. I would watch them do anything!

Can't wait to see it. There is nothing new in the concept that Holmes and Watson were more than partners in crime. If this is the first time you've heard this, you obviously don't read Doyle.

Yeah, they were friends, period. Dr. Watson was happily married and Sherlock Holmes was an intellectual cold fish. Just because two guys are friends isn't some freudian indicator that they're homosexuals, that's a 21st century social viewpoint.

I have read Doyle, including reading about Watson's marriage to Mary Marston (and to at least two other women - some estimates say as many as six), and about Holmes' attraction to Irene Adler. You remember? The one Holmes calls "THE woman"?

It's a stretch to think of Holmes himself as attracted to women in general - that much is clear - but we have tons of evidence Watson was very much a ladies man.

All that being said, if Ritchie wants to work with the existing material and see how it turns out, hey, he's not the first by any means. The Seven Percent Solution and Young Sherlock Holmes spring to mind. Whether this take on Holmes and Watson's relationship will work or not is up to the audience, I guess.

Saw the wonderful coming attractions in the theatre, read all the books, have seen every Holmes movie ever made, so, yes, I will be going to see this latest reincarnation of Doyle's sleuth.

I wasn't planning to watch it anyway because Jeremy Brett so totally owned the character that when he died, I couldn't accept anyone else as Holmes. So I wouldn't watch Rupert Everett's Holmes on PBS in 2006.
And BTW, Brett's Holmes was as fey as you could get on network TV!

Rupert Everett's Holmes was...lacking. Jeremy Brett was as good as Basil Rathbone's, maybe even better.

Jeremy Brett was IT! I liked Basil Rathbone when I was a kid, but as I grew up I realized the Basil Rathbone / Nigel Bruce dynamic was messed up - Holmes never stopped calling his Watson an idiot, a fool, incompetent.... Nigel Bruce took a lot of abuse in those movies, that wasn't the Watson character of the stories.

I'm surprised Ritchie got paid to direct anything after that debacle: RockNRolla. Maybe he took some of that Madonna divorce money and executive produced this one himself.

If Woody Allen can make bomb after bomb, give Guy Ritchie a break. Jeesh!

Hmmmmm...ya know...I think I might like to see that.

Stay tuned, this holiday season, Hollywood's velvet mob will have movies that turn Santa Claus, Jesus and God gay. And they won't stop at that. Next will be the universe, solar system and eternity. After that, who knows!

Do you sit up at night and worry about stuff like this? It's really easy - don't buy a ticket, if you don't "approve". Considering Santa, Jesus and god are all fictional characters anyway, who cares if someone decides to make them gay?

It's getting to be a bit much. LaLaLand still reeks of cultural nepotism. Hollywood does not portray a fair demographic depiction of the diversity of America. To the suits, inclusion means minorities, bohemians and no one else. Those who benefit from it deny it. Those who suffer from it are labeled and alienated. It's not politically correct to tell the truth in this country anymore about anything. But agenda is agenda and dreck is dreck when an icon of literature is turned into a sexual caricature.

I enjoy the old Sherlock Holmes movies but I'll see this film, not to make comparisons to the books but to be entertained. RDJ is always interesting to watch and Mark Strong is a talented character actor - he should make a great villain.
