Kodinji India

Reuters:

Walk around Kodinji village and you'll think that you have double vision.

The village is home to as many as 230 sets of twins. Nobody knows why there are so many twins in the village of 15,000 people, although one local doctor suspects it might be due to the water.

Arranged marriages within the community. Sometimes the couples are related.

What the article failed to mention is that this same village has a large tree growing in the middle of town that has strange glowing fruit.

In my high school graduating class of about 300, when they had kids, there were at last count 8 sets of twins.

I had twin friends and what they could do was mystifying. When they played Kweskin's ESP game, they got 8 of 10 correct answers when one held the card and the other guessed. Might have had more matches, but we were freaking out. So then, someone else held up the card and the twins wrote down their answers: except they wrote down the same answer as the other, and only had 1 match to the card holder. They were mirror twins and watching them draw the same symbol on paper with opposite hands - one was left handed, the other right handed - was also pretty weird!

In a country of 1.1 billion people interbreeding, things are bound to get genetically screwed up eventually.

This is very easy to figure out.

Obviously, some male inhabitant of the village, with twin genes in his DNA, is getting very, VERY busy with all his neighbors wives.

I'm Guilty as charged.

Genetics FAIL.

There's no established connection between a particular gene and an increased rate of identical twins. And the main cause of fraternal twins lies with the mother, not the father.

I recall reading an article back in 2007, about a similar instance of increased numbers of twins in the village of Igbo-Ora, Nigeria:

Having twins is hereditary... Isolated village, many twins marrying other twins... no big mystery.

Or one of the village's male citizens is getting around a lot.

A self sustained village as this with all these twins must have no problem concentrating.
