AP/Huffington Post   First Posted: 09/05/09 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 02:45 PM ET

President Obama held an event Wednesday in hard-hit Elkhart, Indiana. He discussed the economy and made an announcement about stimulus money: $2.4 billion in taxpayer grants to create electric cars and tens of thousands of jobs.

This is the same region where Obama made his first trip outside the Washington beltway as president after three weeks on the job. He was lobbying for the stimulus.

After his remarks, Obama sat down with NBC News' Chuck todd for a live Q&A.

Todd: Some have compared this financial crisis to a war and in times of war past Presidents have called for some form of sacrifice. Some of your programs whether main street or Wall Street have actually cushioned the blow for those that were irresponsible during this economic period of prosperity, supposed prosperity that you were talking about. Why, given this new era of responsibility that you're asking for why haven't you asked for something specific that the public should be sacrificing to participate in this economic recovery?
You wonder why this country is going down the toilet. I don't think it's the corporate controlled media.

How time flies! It was less than a month ago when the whole media, including Todd, was fanning over Cronkite's legacy: "Report the news, don't be the news".

Another great steal: I'll steal your name for Todd, Toadster, and my other favorite new moniker for David Gregory: Hairball. Thank you. Pretty soon I'll sound as clever as Jason Linkins.

Will he bring his knee pads to the "interview"?
12:23 PM on 08/06/2009
maybe....along with his "binkie".... we need grown ups to interview the POTUS!!!!
10:08 PM on 08/05/2009
I wish he would sit down with Keith and Rachel at some point. They are two journalists who deserve it.
11:00 PM on 08/05/2009
Rachel interviewed him twice.right?
11:26 PM on 08/05/2009
Yes. Keith has also interviewed him more than once.

Please no more Chuck Todd. He was exposed by Glenn Greenwald as a totally gutless airhead. He graduated from the George Stephanopolis school of dumb questions followed by irrelevant commentary.
10:12 PM on 08/05/2009
I agree...he is rather disappointing.
07:00 PM on 08/05/2009
I agree with you 100% Boca

Chuck Todd a lightweight. Where are the real news reporters? Ego of Chuck comes into play time after time when I hear him ask questions and then does a 180 (like on Hardball) on the answers from press conferences.

The more Obama keeps his "sit down sessions" with media tv stars, the more his rating are going to drop. He was elected because he was something different, promising change, and offering hope. So far, nothing is really different except the enormous amounts of money spent, and recieved from special lobbies, like health insurance and big Pharma.....WHOEVER IS HANDLING OBAMA AND HIS MEDIA IS MAKING A HUGE MISTAKE. They younger people might think it is great, he is one of the people, but the actual voting public is being turned off by the steady appearance of Obama on comedy shows, talk shows, sit downs, staged, Bush like, town halls, etc.....this country needs more than that...and we will continue to vote for people who want that as well....hold the photo ops and soft ball interivews and actually do something.......

Ummmm, I think you're the only person who feels like this...
06:12 PM on 08/05/2009
You would be wrong...over 19% of independents who worked and voted for Obama are no longer willing to do so...and it is only his 8th month. You need to look at the entire picture...we older Americans are not so much impressed by a hip guy who is "one of the folks" and happens to be president..we just got rid of one of those...younger people think that is leadership.....it isn't.....Obama is failing badly so far...these shows and appearances are not going to help in the end......Less is more, as they say...
07:03 PM on 08/05/2009
Dude he works for MSNBC the official Obama station
07:15 PM on 08/05/2009
Oh really. Better tell that to Matthews and the daytime people who have no problem reporting both sides just as incorrectly as Faux does.
04:54 PM on 08/05/2009
I like chuck Todd....Just saying
04:05 PM on 08/05/2009
I was watching and was incredulous when they cut away to talk about Hill. They pumped it to be this "exclusive", and then cut away when Prez was stating facts, rather than their "perceptions and opinion" about what he was actually saying. Truth be told, it's been weeks since I've watched any of the MSM consistently. My frustration level is not much less than when listening to faux or that ilk. It's all a load of rubbish and no channel actually does real investigative or factual reporting any more. That said, HP with all the TR@// food headlines has been wearysome as well as of late. I really come here to insure there are still some sane people in America. If I relied on the media, I would lose my mind as well.

Stick to Jon Stewart if you want facts.

Bill Maher as well.
04:20 PM on 08/05/2009
Oh, never miss Jon. Bill, sometimes, but not so much. He does usually have a decent perspective ( when he agrees with me, LOL), but to be honest, he is quite difficult to look at. I get terribly distracted trying to focus on something on his face that fits with something else. He looks as if he is putty. Also, for real news, go global like CNN International, BBC, ITN...
04:27 PM on 08/05/2009
co-sign! there are a few sane ones left here. mostly tro//s lately. they are round the bend with Pres. Clinton's accomplishments.

This was a stand up not a sit down.

And what's up with Chuck Todd and his breathless questions?
04:22 PM on 08/05/2009
I know, strange his way of interviewing. He always acts as if he is rushing so he can go to the toi let
