I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Rush Limbaugh continues to put the Republican Party's leaders in very awkward situations with his controversial, often explosive, remarks. Only a week ago Republican Rep. Eric Cantor, a leader of his party in the House, said that the GOP "needs the Rush Limbaughs" -- now the conservative host is putting that statement to the test.

Today on his radio show Limbaugh compared President Obama to Hitler: "Adolf Hitler, like Barack Obama, ruled by dictate."

Limbaugh also believes the "Obama health care logo is damn close to a Nazi swastika logo."

Already, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has put out a statement blasting the remarks, and launched a petition urging Republicans to distance themselves from the comments.

DCCC spokeswoman Jennifer Crider issued the following statement in response to Rush Limbaugh's outrageous comments comparing Democrats to members of the Nazi Party and use of the Nazi swastika:

"Rush Limbaugh's comparison of the Democratic Party to the Nazi Party in World War II is as disgusting as it is shocking. Limbaugh's use of the Nazi swastika in attempting to make a tasteless political comparison has no place in the public discourse.

"Just this past weekend, Minority Whip Eric Cantor said that the GOP 'needs' Mr. Limbaugh. He should immediately condemn Limbaugh's hateful rhetoric in the strongest possible terms and encourage Republican Members to do the same.

"At a time when families need real solutions to rebuild the economy and make health care more affordable, Rush Limbaugh is attempting to sidetrack the important debate through his use of symbols that are synonymous with murder and intolerance. Americans deserve better."

Indicating symptom of Republipsychophrenia: delusions of victimization while fawning over rich folk and blaming the poor, the media and liberals for all of one's problems.

Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

Limbaugh has merely equated how a politician stirred the youth of a nation rally for change, became popular, and when he became dictator was able to actually control government without opposition.

Like Hitler, Obama has followed a similar path. Limbaugh is not suggesting that Obama is a Nazi, but that he is potentially gaining the power of a dictator... and that is a scary thought.

Armed Forces Network broadcast to nearly a million military personel. Limbaugh just called our commander in chief Hitler.
Hitler was responsibile for the death of millions including,
hundreds thousands of Americans soldiers. Limbaughs makes light of deaths. This not the first time Limbaugh disrepected our fallen soldiers. He railed against Ted Koppel's Memorial day tribute to soldiers who died in Iraq. This from someone who refused to serve when our country called him during the Vietnam War. Not that he was against the war. Limbaugh just wanted someone else to go in his place.

How exactly is Barack Obama ruling by dictate? If that were true, we'd have health insurance reform done for months now.

By the way, what's the difference between Rush Limbaugh and the Hindenberg?

One is a big Nazi gas bag and the other was an airship.

Obama isn't ruling by dictate...yet. But with majorities in the legislature he can pretty much get his way on any policy he wants.

oh please grow up. Politicians want to be re-elected. They won't do anything that will get them kicked out of office, Democrat or Republican. If Democrats actually passed a bill that included the crazy things Republicans say Democrats want, they would all be voted out of office, and no Democrat would ever be elected again. There is simply no chance that the health care reform bill includes the crazy things Republicans say it includes. You have to be totally naive to think that any politician, of any party, would consider for a moment voting for what the Republicans claim Democrats are proposing.Their claims are absurd.

It's a funny comparison for Limbaugh to make, when anyone who has studied Hitler's rise to power could easily compare Limbaugh's fearmongering to Hitler's early "brownshirt" years. On Limbaugh's 8-7-09 show, he made the following statements about the President's health reform goals:

"I think something more nefarious, Pat, is having senior citizens die earlier than normal by denying them lifesaving health care coverage also will allow them to "reform" Social Security."

and

"They are going to deny certain coverage to people who are not, by virtue of age, close to death, but if they've got diseases."

and

"they want to certainly not have to spend money on people who have reached a certain age, just to put it bluntly, where it's not worth it in their mind. It's not worth the investment to keep you alive."

and

"If it works -- if it gets you riled up when you find out that at your end of life, this government's going to throw you out to pasture, if that works to keep you fired up -- that's good. But this is about so much more than that. This is why I think it's important that the elderly people, seasoned citizens understand what's going on."

If he can't understand the legislation, he could at least read the comments of DeParle or Sebelius. That, of course, would mean that Limbaugh would have to deal with facts, and that is too inconvenient for his agenda.

It's stupid to throw comparisons to Nazis or to Hitler around, but we can expect stupid people to do it again and again. The best I ever heard was at a city council meeting in an unnamed town, in which a measure to ban pit bulls was on the agenda. Several people had signed up to speak for and against, and on the against side, sad to say, was a woman who compared the idea of breed banning to the holocaust. "First they came for Pit Bulls, and I said nothing, for I had not a Pit Bull. Then they came for the Rottweilers ..."

Rush Limbaugh and company are going all out to mobilize their white, Confederate-Evangelical base, although it's not going to do them all that much good. They haven't caught up to the fact yet that this is not a conservative era like the 1980s and 1990s, and their old tactics are not going to win in this decade.

The Democrats can counter this populism of the right with left-wing populism of their own, portraying the Republicans as a wealthy aristocracy that is desperate to hang onto its power and privileges. It is a party ruled by elitists like the Southern C Street Boys, hostile to spending money that will help the ordinary people, hostile to labor unions, Social Security, Medicare, federal spending on housing, health care and education.

Above all else, the battle will be decided by making the Republicans look like a privileged elite that is trying to manipulate the common people for its own arrogant and selfish purposes. In other words, Democrats have to learn how to play the Class Card again.

"Minority Whip Eric Cantor said that the GOP 'needs' Mr. Limbaugh"

This is why trying to work together in a bipartisan manner with the Republican party leadership is a formula for failure and defeat. The Republican leaders have no honor and no sense of right and wron. They are gross demogogues.

Cobble all of this vitriol together and America becomes not merely the laughing-stock of the world but more tellingly the hollow-legged horseman not with its legs on the granite of "liberty and justice for all" nor Bush's rants about "freedom and democracy" but a second-tier state of idiot-savants and cliche-mouthing dunderheads that is "indeed over there" ---thank God!

There is more to be said for Putin's Russia rooted in the spituality of the "sobornost". That's why I gave up on the "red, white and blue" ten years ago and moved to Europe!

Sadly, most Americans are not intelligent enough to read and understand a dictionary
definition of liberal, and conservative.
