Eunice Kennedy Shriver In Critical Condition At Mass. Hospital

CAPE COD, Mass. — A family spokesman says Eunice Kennedy Shriver is in critical condition at a Massachusetts hospital.

Spokesman Stephen Rivers said Friday that the 88-year-old sister of President John F. Kennedy is surrounded by her family at Cape Cod Hospital. He says her husband, children and all her grandchildren are at her side.

Shriver is renowned in her own right for founding the Special Olympics.

So many people vilify the Kennedy family. But they are our only true royalty. True, the father may have gained his fortune dishonesty, but he and Rose produced children of enormous value. While many of the scions of other wealthy dynasties live lives of hedonistic indulgence, the Kennedy's entered politics, worked with charities, wrote books, fought for the poor, helped the handicapped, set an example and made a huge difference. No other family has set such a high standard for noblesse oblige.

Yes . . . they have done alot . . . but in some areas they did not set a high standard! The Kennedy men have tended to think and act like the rules don't apply to them. Drinking, drugs, infidelities, cover-ups . . . and I'm not talking about daddy. It was John F Kennedy Jr. who called them the "poster boys for bad behavior" So, while they have done good things . . . don't put them up on a pedestal . . . they weren't, and aren't, perfect . . . in alot of cases the example they set was not a good one!

Getting rid of royalty was one of the reasons our country broke away from England.

Growing up Irish Catholic, the name Kennedy was as high up there as GOD. What set them apart from republicans wasn't thier fame, it was thier willingness to give back to the people. It was the challenge they threw at us, to give back whatever we had to give, be it a rare talent to help others, a donation to a cause that aided special groups of people with special needs. It was a mind set that echoed the true meaning of what it means to be human, and giving, and not asking how it could benefit us financially, but morally, ethically, spiritually. Giving back. That was something the kennedy family knew about, that came from having family members with special needs and founding an organization that raised money for special needs adults and kids. Coming from thier financial background, it would have been easy just to take, but they set the tone for the rest of us to follow in thier footsteps. If you ignore the antics of youth, and look at their record of loss and success, thier strength came from that one belief, to give back, is the best gift of all. Eunice, instilled that in her family, and they in thier own kids. I ask you to do the same for yourselves and yours.
