CHICAGO (AP) -- A broken fan in the ventilation system at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago is causing some surgeries to be rescheduled and others to be moved.
Hospital spokeswoman Kris Lathan says patients who have surgeries scheduled this week should call to see if they'll be affected.
The most critical surgeries are continuing as planned. Others will be moved from the main hospital to Northwestern's Prentice Women's Hospital.
Lathan says the fan needs a new blade and a new belt. Hospital officials initially thought the problem could be fixed in two days.
She says keeping operating rooms the right temperature is important, no matter what the weather is like outside.
Lathan says fewer than half the hospital system's 52 operating rooms are affected.
