American Idol

nytimes.com:

Losing the competition to the tepid Kris Allen, who has most likely inspired no homespun jockstrap tributes has done little to dilute the phenomenon of Mr. Lambert, as was clear at the Prudential Center here on Sunday night. This year's "American Idols Live!" tour, which features the Top 10 performers of Season 8 on Fox, could have easily passed for an Adam Lambert concert with nine supporting acts.

Adam is the show. He is the only truly talented person who has ever been on idol. All of the others are make believe stars. Sorry, but true.

90% of the people who were at the concert I was, only came to see and hear Adam sing.
Until he sang it was boooring except for Allison.

The fact that Adam should have won is not only being validated by the concerts (best reviews, most audience response, most merchandise sales, etc) but by the number of people in the industry wanting to work with him. He just recorded a song for a soundtrack to an upcoming movie, hi s Mad World rendition is being used for a promo for a new ABC show, he has the biggest music producers and photographers working on his album. The LA Times is running a four part series on him. He just won the Teen Choice award, Young Hollywood Award, has more Twitter followers than any of the Idols, more membera on his official site than any other Idol. It is insane. He has had to stop going out to the barricades to sign autographs after the show because the crowd is overwhelming there to see him and has gotten out of control. And for anyone complaining about him only being "screamy", "screechy" or "wailing". Mad World, Starlight (especially the acoustic version on GMA Friday), Tracks of My Tears show otherwise. He can sing anything and sing it well..

What's interesting is that Lambert continues to learn and grow by toning it down when appropriate to the song and that has to be admired.

Lambert ovrshadowed everyone on AI so it's only expected that no one from that show has a chance when Lambert goes at it. I mentioned several times that he needed to tone it down and it's good to read he has; less is always best.

Steamboater - you changed your photo - I almost didn't see you.

Did you see the new article/interview with Sam Harris?

http://www.gaylesbiantimes.com/?id=15300

It's a good interview and it was nice to see something written about him - his comments on Adam are great - his comments on MJ, not so much, but his honest opinion.

Adam is a superstar and a mega talent and we're all waiting for him to launch into his own and rule for awhile. I'd pay huge coin to see him in person with his own gig. I can't say I'd do that for any other Idol contestant except maybe Kelly Clarkson who's now a proven entertainer.

Adam when your through playing with the day care center come to Texas and we'll see if we can't give ya a good crowd.

I didn't watch the show this year until I heard Adam perform.
Then Kris 'whatshisname' won (I really can't remember).

In my opinion, idol has jumped the shark.
If a talent like Adam Lambert can't win idol --
there's really no point to the show.

AND: Letting Paula go (the only real comic relief on offer once the auditions were over) was also a really stu.pid move. Watching her perform verbal gymnastics in an attempt to not hurt a contestants feelings was a great drinking game.

Without her, it's just "dog" and "you suck" with a little vanilla in the middle.

I love to read about Adam on the HuffPost...lol..idk, it's like bringing my 2 loves together.
Adam and Kris will both do well. I think this is true because their idol fans seem to support them even after idol. Look at Kelly Clarkson, i've never really cared about her, but she's doing very well, she has a great career!
I'm super excited about Adam Lambert though! He happens to be a wonderful performer, with amazing vocals to go with that. Can't wait to see what he does with his album...

with condenser microphones and all the tech manipulation on the idol show- it is hard for most people to realize what a monster talent adam is. i was able to discern his dynamic voice only thru careful observation. in other words he holds back to not show up the other singers in group or duo gigs. but i think it is very altruistic of him. totally a mensch.

That's true. When Adam sings with others he's very generous and holds back and probably because he knows he could decimate them all if he wanted to. Truly a mensch.

I went to "the American Idol Top Ten" concert at Staples Center here in LA and yes, Adam was the star of the show and he was incredible..Everyone who attended will agree that he is one of a kind.but it should be noted that when onstage with the other nine..he is extremely generous and supportive..He cedes the stage to Allison during their duet and he watches Kris perform with the adoration of a fan. In a very classy way..never patronizing..Adam always stands aside for Kris and keeps his friend in the foreground. He makes sure Kris, Allison and the others are appreciated. Anyone who has seen the concert will agree with me...and any friction or competitiveness is a figment of the New York Times' imagination.

Adam should have won. Period! Why is there even a discussion about this. We all know why he lost. The winner - I forget his name - is sweet. But Adam is a true talent.

"American Idol Tour More of A Adam Lambert Show"

And it is a embarrassment that a editor is not able to check for a incorrectly written headline like this.

Adam will be forgotten when his album flops and/or he loses his contract, just like every other Idol runner-up. He lost for a reason.

There have been many other non-winners on Idol who have gone on to super stardom. Chris Daughtry has done phenomenally well. Add to this list Clay Aiken, Fantasia, Bo Bice, Jennifer Hudson, Tamyra Gray, Elliot Yamin, and others. Some of the winners haven't done as well as the runner ups, like Ruben Studdard.

Every contestant that came in second place like Adam has flopped and/or been dropped from their contract. That includes Clay Aiken, who got tossed from the RCA roster awhile ago.

hmm... just because some of those you name have done, or continue to do, fairly well certainly does NOT mean they've "gone on to super stardom"! But there's no question that a few of the non-winners have done well. Clay, Daughtry, Jennifer Hudson and Elliot Yamin - and a few others.

FYI - Fantasia won - she went to Broadway for a while, but hasn't done much since. I'd like to see her put out an album!

The only one of ALL the Idols, OR non-winners, of any year, who is destined for Super Stardom is Adam! He's gotten the bump from AI - now it's up to him to prove if he's got the chops and the luck to grab his star.

He did indeed lose for a reason: He's gay, and the homophobes of America just couldn't stand the thought of a gay man winning American Idol. I like Kris, but he could never dream of having the range, the control, the versatility, and the sheer vocal power of Adam. I wouldn't put it past the Christian Right to have organized in their churches to vote for Kris (regardless of whether or not they've ever even watched the show) simply to keep the "gay guy" from winning. The reaction from real fans on the tour makes it clear that Adam, with his talent and charisma, is the real winner of American Idol.

Nah, I think he lost because he screams and wails when he sings. That made him polarizing for a lot of people.

not so. it was more about voting for the nice christian boy.

Kris is cute and that's all he has going for him. Musically he's boring and doesn't have the ability to sing several kinds of musical genres as Adam does. Without a microphone and good engineering, Kris's singing is flaccid. Put him in a coffee house and he'd do well, on some lazy afternoon but he's no superstar as Lambert is.

Oh please. Lambert lost because there were phone banks in favor of Kris form those who are homophobic and also because Lambert doesn't fit the mayonaisse all-American mold; his loss had nothing to do with talent. His performances now though as reported in the NY Times completely overwhelm everyone else. His album will sell and it will sell in record numbers.

I hope all those people who bragged that they voted for Kris 10,000 times also plan to buy 10,000 of his albums, CDs, singles, and concert tickets - otherwise Kris is in deep do-do - and he'll lose his recording contract.

I know Kris has a lot of music training and plays several instruments - I hope he's ready to write songs for others, and maybe learn to produce - cuz I really don't think performing is his forte.

I think the article was extremely mean spirited. The winner and the loser had absolutely nothing to do with the outcome. They didn't do their own voting. The article is taking out their animosity about the outcome on the winner that was as surprised as anybody else. Adam and Kris have been friends from the start, but all this jabbing is just plain ugly. It takes a lot of nerve for anybody to get up and perform and we should applaud all of them and future audiences will determine their fate.

That's silly. The reporter reported what he saw and heard. You may not like it but an audience giving thunderous applause to Lambert over the polite applause for others is fact.
