Merkel's Cleavage Takes Center Stage In German Elections

German Chancellor Angela Merkel's breasts have been the subject of much attention after a female politician used them as a ploy to bring attention to her candidacy, Reuters reports.

The conservative Christian Democrats (CDU) candidate, Vera Lengsfeld, made a campaign poster out of a photograph of her with Merkel in low-cut dresses. The slogan "We have more to offer" runs across Merkel's breasts, according to Reuters.

Scores of voters pilloried the 57-year-old Lengsfeld on her election blog for the poster, which the CDU declined to defend.

"This wasn't agreed with us," a party spokesman said of the placard, which features a famous shot of Merkel sporting a plunging neckline at an Oslo opera house that created a media sensation in Germany when it first appeared last year.

Lengsfeld has little chance of winning as she is running in a left-wing district of Berlin, AFP reports. The elections are September 27.

Lengsfeld said over 17,000 people had visited her election blog since she shot into the public eye.

"If only a tenth of them also look at the content of my policies, I will have reached many more people than I could have done with classic street canvassing."

Lengsfeld told news channel N24 that she had not gotten permission from Merkel to create the campaign poster.
