DELHI - Women protesters marched through the streets of Kathmandu in their hundreds after the Government announced a "humiliating" scheme to offer financial incentives for men to marry widows.

On second thought, I'm sure these women have too much self-respect for that.

If the government realizes that widows are being discriminated against, and wants to rectify the situation, then why not make it more of a public service campaign, to educate people on it? They should stop the rule that widows and divorcees can't attend certain events or wear certain clothes.

Their proposal doesn't fix the problem, but allows it to continue for all the women who do not wind up getting remarried. This will not create healthy, happy marriages. Men will marry these women, keep the money, then divorce them asap.
