NEW YORK (AP) -- A new guide sponsored by former President Bill Clinton's foundation is showcasing the highlights of Harlem.

The Spotlight on Harlem guide from the Zagat Survey gives reviews on more than 300 restaurants, nightspots, shops and attractions like Sylvia's restaurant and the Apollo Theater. It also gives an overview of Harlem's history.

It's sponsored by the Clinton Foundation's Economic Opportunity Initiative. The foundation's offices are in Harlem.

The Zagat Survey publishes guides in more than 100 countries worldwide. They cover restaurants as well as leisure activities including travel, nightlife and shopping. Reviews are based on consumer opinions.

Harlem businesses in general are desperately in need of support - hopefully this will help but why aren't these restaurants listed in the main Zagat's guide which has a much broader audience and clout? Just curious. By the way, check out www.harlemonestop.org - many options for entertainment, shopping, restaurants and cultural events in Harlem and Wash Heights. We need to support our local businesses and arts groups!

Sylvia's. Isn't that the one about which Bill Orally made the comment implying that all blacks are supposed to sound like rappers?

West Harlemites should know about a couple of new restaurants opening on Eighth Avenue soon. One is an Italian bistro (sorry, I can't remember the name) at the corner of Eighth and 117th, and the other is Queston's (pronounced "Cue-stuns"), a seafood restaurant on Eighth between 114 and 115 (owned by the same person who owns the Posh Paws pet supply store on the same block). Keep an eye peeled for when they open, and support your local small businesses like these!

If you want to eat out in Harlem avoid Sylvia's; it's a toursit trap. Visit Londell's or Amy Ruth's, you can thank me later.
