I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Since August is Beer Month at HuffPost Green, we've kicked off the fun with top green beers in the US. But we're not done yet. We're asking YOU to tell us about your favorite local beers or the tastiest brews that are doing right by Mother Earth.

Here's how it works:

Hit the participate button, tell us why you love that beer, (if they do green initiatives, all the better!) and mark the area where the beer is brewed by searching for an address in the box on the top right of the map, upload your photo and hit submit. Thank you!

Find a picture, click the participate button, add a title and upload your picture

Check out the brews readers love so far:

Wow...I am shocked that Peak Organic is not #1....it's such incredible beer. Would be my first choice for sure...

I'm not a beer drinker, but on a recent restaurant visit my sweetie ordered an Oberon's Summer Ale, and on tasting it, I found it delightfully drinkable (unlike every other beer I've ever tasted; I think it's the hops that turn me off). Good stuff!

Belhaven Scottish Ale and make sure you get one either on tap or with the crazy thing in the can to bring out the perfection.

Bah, on tap or in a can it's nitrogen-injected, a trick to make it smoother. It wasn't also a nitro beer on draft, and was much better when back then.

In my opinion, you can't beat Michigan Brewing Company's Superior Stout and Roffey's Lake-Effect Stout.

I've had a lot of different beer in my life: Canadian, German, American, Czech. The ONLY beer I like in the US is Samuel Adams - especially their Boston Lager. Yummy!

When we were young hippies we really liked Carlsburg Elephant Malt Liquor, it was kinda like cheap legal lsd in a bottle. We're too old for that now ! Have lots of favorites but the top two would have to be Old Rasputin Imperial Stout (as strong as Elephant Malt but more like shrooms than acid), and the very excellent sippin' beer Alaskan Smoked Porter (unfortunately not very available even in Alaska).

I posted my favorite in the poll above, but here are my top 5 best and worst beers.

1. Red Tail and Blue Heron ales from Mendocino Brewing in Hopland, Ca. How can you not like a beer brewed in a place called Hopland?
2.Henry Weinhard's. The best semi-mass market beer available on the West Coast. Their green Iced Ale is particularly fine.
3.Kronenbourg. French beer. I drank a lot of Italian, Greek, Spanish, German and French beer in the Mediterranean. Kronenbourg was my fave of the lot.
4.Pabst Blue Ribbon. The best of the old-time mass market beers
5.San Miguel Beer. I grew up listening to Conradian commercials for San Miguel and have sampled the product of all three breweries. Manila San Miguel is best, Hong Kong San Miguel was the most consistent and Madrid San Miguel the worst.

5 Worst
1. Primo. Hawaii is not the place to make quality beer and Primo ain't quality.
2. Mon Lei. Taiwanese Rice beer. Not good.
3. Seybrew. The beer of the Seychelles, another tropical location
4. Rolling Rock. Sorry guys. I bought an 8-pack and wondered why until I tasted one. Then I had 7 bottles to pour out instead of 5.
5.Samichlaus Brown. Mud that REALLY makes you drunk. Not a pretty sight.

No Lowenbrau Munich, no Budweiser (the Czech original, not the fake one from St. Louis), no Bitburger...I guess y'all haven't been to Germany.

Egad, Lowenbrau? Lowenbrau is a poster child for why reinheitsgebot is no guarantee of quality.

Bayerische Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan, Brauerei Schneider & Sohn, Heller-Trum (maker of Schlenkerla), and the Reinheitsgebot-defying (with coriander and salt!) Gosebrauerei Bayerischer Bahnhof, are all brewers of wonderful beer that doesn't necessarily appeal to the beer drinking tastes of the masses.

Yuengling Lager. Always reliable, always good.

Speaking of Lager, give Abita (Louisiana) a try.
They have some seasonal brews which are nice.
The best one I've had was the Strawberry Harvest Lager - becomes available in May and sells out in the same month.
Sounds fruity, but it's not. The strawberry is just a nice hint, you get a great Lager taste from it.

I liked Yuengling for about five minutes. Then I realized it's just not that interesting. Pretty much every region in the US has a cheap, reliable beer. Back in Texas it's Lone Star. Local pride is about all Yuengling has going for it.

I find it hard to choose a favorite beer overall. I find it easier to seperate beer by style and then choose a favorite for each style. Sierra Nevada is my favorite beer to drink, but every once in a while I like to have a stronger beer such as Stone IPA. In the summer, it's nice to drink a good lager such as Stella.

The All-American beer - Rolling Rock.
But only when it's brewed in the glass lined tanks of Old Latrobe.

Actually, it's been proven to be good for you. I'm a nurse who did my dissertation on wine and beer and their cardiovascular impact. If I can find the link I'll post it on here for you!!

Sorry,

Not anymore.

Rolling Rock is owned by Anheuser-Busch, and now Anheuser-Busch is owned by InBev.

And now InBev wants to dump them...

Without a doubt Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Have found nothing that compares to it. It is great on tap and in a bottle. Taste never gets tiring. Always refreshing and gives you a pleasant buzz after just two bottles or pints.

Tastes more like India Pale Ale.

Very strong. Must be REALLY, REALLY cold to stomach.
