Kevin Bacon

"She's Having a Baby" star Kevin Bacon remembered the film's writer-director John Hughes in a new interview and talked about how the film foreshadowed his life.

Bacon tells Popeater he hadn't spoken to Hughes in some time. "He went to his farm and... a lot of people say they're going to step away from Hollywood, and they do it for a year and a half and then they come back. He really just walked away."

But, he cherished his time working with the director, even if the film was not as beloved by audiences as other Hughes' movies.

"The fact that it didn't perform as well as some of his other films was extremely hard for him, because he felt like, 'Okay, I'm doing something now that is truly from my heart,' and in a way, I was really playing him."

Bacon adds that "not just because I'm in it, I'm extremely proud of it and think it's one of the best things he ever did."

He made the film before marrying Kyra Sedgwick.

"Interestingly, I wasn't married at the time. I was in a sort of rough period of my life. He really helped me through it. As I moved out of the film, in the next couple years, I ended up getting married and having a baby. The film became this bizarre kind of practice for that chapter in my life."
Bacon's costar Alec Baldwin recently wrote a blog remembering Hughes.

Sweet. Kevin Bacon and his brother have a mean Ass band. It is so cool. His brother siongs like Kenny Loggins, and Kevin is too big a star to perform on stage it's almost overwhelming to an audience. He is down to earth, and I thinkJohn Hughes learned more from Kevin than anyone.

I haven't seen it (sorry) But I did see a Biography episode (A&E) with Kevin Bacon, and he goes a little more in depth about this experience.

It's great, look it up.

I'll never forget being involved on a weekly basis in "The Breakfast Show" at CalArts (1973-1974), run by Marvin J. McIntyre, who in 1985 co-starred with Judd Nelson in "Fandango", the same year Judd Nelson starred in "The Breakfast Club".

As improvising cameramen on "The Breakfast Show", Paul Reubenfeld (later Pee Wee Herman and then Paul Reubens) found us to be his only studio audience. Every week "The Breakfast Show" included his children show host bit (later to be done by Chevy Chase in the movie, "Tunnel Vision", 1976): Paul's children show host persona would suddenly transform, as he solemnly asked the kids to get all the parents out of the room. Then he would read to us from a dirty novel. After a dose of this, he then asked us "kids" to bring all the parents back into the room, at which point he would put the kiddie show host persona back on. I was very sad when Paul quit "The Breakfast Show".

Soundtrack is great on this one too, "This Woman's Work" by Kate Bush and the point that they played it in the film will always resenate with me.

I agree that it is a really strong film. Most folks focus on Hughes' youth films, but this one (along with Planes Trains and Automobiles) are my favorites.

I love that movie. It has so much heart. I think it does a really good job of showing what a man goes threw emotionally when a new marriage and a baby come into his life. And Alec Baldwin is awesome in it.
