Brad Pitt for mayor!

Pitt's interview with Ann Curry aired on Thursday's 'Today' show, and New Orleans' most prominent Katrina rebuilder thanks to his Make it Right Foundation joked about running for mayor of the Louisiana town, as locals have taken to wearing "Brad Pitt for Mayor" T-shirts.

"I don't have a chance," Pitt told Curry. "I'm running on the gay marriage, no religion, legalization and taxation of marijuana platform."

Pitt and partner Angelina Jolie's answer about whether they will ever wed has been, for years, that they will get married when gay marriage is legalized.

The reformed family man also recently told Parade that he used to smoke "grass."

The interview was pretaped in New Orleans a week ago, as Monday Pitt was in LA for his 'Inglourious Basterds' premiere and Wednesday he was in New York for the premiere of 'The Time Traveler's Wife,' which he executive produced.

Wouldn't it be a gas if Pitt IS elected? He said it's not what he does best, but his platform is ideal! If he's elected, he can always hire a proxy, to do his mayoral job, under his direction of course, while he himself is off making films. I know I'd much prefer that to a creep who doesn't know, or care what the People want... Brad's got that one down cold.

Brad is to smart to go into politics, people like him go in to change things and then they are the ones who get changed and usually not for the better!, I think Brad is good at what he does and he certainly don't need to go all politcal to keep doing what he's doing! love ya Brad!

God, watching this again, he could play the young Jeff Bridges. Couldn't he? Maybe some day.

That political stance will be interesting to follow. ☮

Seems Mr. Pitt and Angelina are contributing to a positive compassionate cause.

I think he'd be very surprised how much support he'd get for that platform, even among less progressive folks in New Orleans. The guy's earned major hero status for all the work he'd done for the city (he's got things done, big time) and a lot of people would embrace his candidacy for that alone.

Mr. Pitt meant it as a satirical joke. He chose three platform positions that would get any politician killed in an election. He has no intention of running for mayor.

He isn't going to run and he explained why. He knows his politics and ideas are not mainstream. I have heard him support all of those ideas, however. The fact that he takes those positions is no joke. Her really means it. Personally, I think he has balls.

Rini, after seeing his interview on Bill Maher to promote his film and raise cause for his New Orleans project...I think you're right, he was not joking. I should have researched his thoughts about gay marriage, specifically, since he has been an outspoken critic of the denial of a such a basic right. I still sense that he knows he could never run for office simply because it would be outlandish, but I now believe he rattled off those three controversial political positions out of sincerity and not satire. Rini, I think he has balls, too....real ones and figurative.

Mr. Pitt. Who do you believe gave you the talent to have fame and fortune? God. He makes the rain to fall on the just and the unjust. These words which you have spoken, from now on, you will be going down hill all the way. Unless you repent, your end is going to be terrible!
Remember the Beatles, they said "we are more popular than God," Shortly after that they split up, and look how they ended up. - it was downhill from then on.

Beware, God is not to be mocked just because a person has $150 million dollars. He maketh rich, and He maketh poor.

Who are you to say what "GOD" thinks? If there is a "god", selfrighteous ah0l3s like yourself would be the first ones heading to that christian "h3ll" you always speak of.

Judge not lest though be judged..

I'm pretty sure, that lowly human peons could do very little to offend or piss the Almighty off..would be like me going postal over an ant walking on my foot.

Be a REAL christian, be open and love those who live differently than yourself.

I used to live in New Orleans, and his "platform" is a hard sell, even if it doesn't really translate into local politics. Even so, New Orleans is overwhelmingly Democratic, even after the displacement, and he would probably only need about 20% of the vote in 2010 to make it to a runoff. With all the trouble that NOLA has had with corruption, and the fact that the locals are big fans of Pitt bringing attention to the city in a positive way, 20% is doable. He probably wouldn't win a runoff, but he should give the idea some thought.

As for his stance on gay marriage, there is a growing number of couples who have publicly stated (and that I know personally) who have decided to wait until gay marriage is legalized to get married themselves. Just as some people consider it a "statement" that two people who love each other should get married, there are others who consider it a statement that they wil not get married until there is gay marriage. It may not be very effective political statement, but it's their choice.

I agree Mr. Pit....you just may win.... and I didn't even like you when I first heard of you. Seems that beyond that pretty face, you actually have substance.
