The first stop on U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s tour was Kenya. Clinton criticized Kenya for rampant corruption and failing to respect the rule of law, saying that African trade cannot flourish without a base of good governance. Clinton also criticized Kenyan leadership for failing to implement reforms agreed upon as part of the power-sharing agreement to end the country’s post-election crisis.

Biden was not sent to Russia, where the administration knew he was unwelcome; he went to Georgia, while Hillary went to China, big, big, difference. She is proving to be an excellent diplomat.

Hillary is proving to be a smile and greet tourist-in-chief warmover of her role as First Lady, far far from being an international policy strategist or true diplomat.

Here token appointment as a powerless place holder in a traditionally powerful cabinet post has been sufficient to pacify the Clintons as polticial critics. So far so good, but Bill and Hillary crave headlines, and will get them, one way or another, even stiring more melodrama, like Hillary did in the Congo.

There are many pressing issues to address around the world. She can't be everywhere at once. Point people in key problem areas shows commitment and engagement.

If it wasn't for her comments on her husband I never would have known she was in Africa. Nothing she did other than that made the news or maybe this is Obama's way of justing getting rid of her off the World Stage. Did she accomplish anything or more of the same, Words, Words and more Words.

Obama is responsible for what the useless American news media chooses to report or not to report? Get a clue. If you are actually interested in where she went, what she accomplished and how she was received, you'll have to search foreign news sources. The American media assume, perhaps not incorrectly, that Americans have no interest in what happens elsewhere in the world even when it involves American interests and diplomacy.

Obviously you don't read the newspapers or know what's in them. One of her first trips was to China, where our Treasury Secretary was soon to follow. Both trips were thoroughly reported in the US press.

We didn't even know she *went* to Africa!
BTW, what for, specifically?

If you wanted to know, you could find out since you obviously have access to the internet. Or do you simply rely on the American MSM for your news of the world?

Here's a clue. Africa is a resource-rich continent. Much of its natural resources have yet to be tapped because most of its countries have yet to establish stable, functioning governments in its post-colonial period. Hence, the possibilities for investment, trade, and improvement in the quality of life for Africans have not begun to be realized. China has been busily building diplomatic and economic ties in Africa for years on the assumption that there will be long-term trade benefits down the road. Until the Obama administration, the US government has made no equivalent effort.

oh please, if untapped natural resources were the reason Hillary went to Africa, it was not to explore the "possibilities ... for improvement in the quality of life for Africans ", it was to serve her greedy corporate cronies who are lined up to "invest" and exploit, just like they do in North America.

Good choice Barack of HRC ...

... by the time she's through with making herself absolutely unelectable, which she already is, she'll also be persona non grata in alot of places.

Excellent strategem!

Right. That's why she was so warmly greeted everywhere she went in Africa except in a meeting in the Congo, where she denounced the culture of rape and enslavement of women that has developed over the years of war in that most benighted country.

She will never be able to get rid of that big chip on her shoulder; namely the magnetism of her husband's personality.

Africa,is problem spot because of their gift and inheritance from God which makes them Birds of Prey by Capitalist Hunters who are ready to skin then dry in another to steal what belongs to the poor masses.

I am a Trinidadian National with keen Interest on Arfica and the Caribbean.

sad to note, that what is happening in some Africa countries are been caused by Merchants who are hunting for their natural resources for the survival of their Kits and Kins while impoverishing the very people that own such resources by supporting un-popular Regimes or Juntas.

Take Nigeria for an instance:Africa sad story.

The British Armed the Arab/Muslims in artificialy created region of Northern Nigeria?Three years of war, then dominance.

Prostitution over there is ninty five percent, probarbly the highest in the world, and probarbly the most affected HIV cases.

These are due to deprivations of people's wealth, corruption at all levels.

Sudan is exactly a replica of Nigeria.

Result:Genocide,Rape,Robbery and Murder.

Thanks to British economic interest.

We the local NGO's are doing our legitimate humanitarian work efficiently with limted resources,at least we are reaching out.

Hillary Clinton's visit to Africa is welcome.

Delivering Corruption lecture to some Africa countries is good, some sanctions, embargo, restrictions and more should be followed.

Nigeria leaders were appointed and never elected,so the US goverment of Hillary Clinton should press for election reforms in Nigeria:One man one vote, open voting and result that very day at poling stations.

For an Africa and Carribean "scholar" you get the dubious distinction of making the most uninformed posting ever - even a random google search would have informed you of the error of your positions.

That said, I'll not waste my time trying to enlighten you - but you'd do well to read up.

You're gonna have to forgive me, but I just don't trust her. I love my President but I think he got carried away when he chose her as his Secretary of State. She has a bad temper and is always mad at someone.

You are wise not to trust Hillary, and she certainly always need someone to blame for her shortcomings. But, Obama appointed her to pacify the Clintons as political critics, so far so good.

Being bitchy and mean, and putting the ex presidents down is not the way a secretary of state should act but the President led the way In knocking this country so why should I expect more.

If he's "knocking this country" why do other nations have such an improved image of America with Obama as President? Obviously they prefer his diplomacy and outreach to the previous war-mongering and adversarial foreign relations we've had for too long. It's good for the world to know that America and Americans are not synonymous with Bush's bad policies.

Damn right we need to join the ICC!

BTW, Hillary, here's how you can really instill some pride in the various peoples of Africa. Remind them that large portions of the US are populated by half-wits who believe the earth to be only 6,000 years old.

Remember folks that Pappa Bush's Supreme Court in 2000 appointed GWB as our president,

while Jeb helped gin up the rest.

We should have been out in the streets, but we were not.

The theft continued on 2002-2004-2006, until we all got it in 2008 and gave President Obama a

LANDSILDE.

HC just spoke the truth and that can not ever be allowed for GOP'ers, because the truth is like

kryptanite to them.

Why is the U.S government spending 17 million dollars to stop rapes against women in Africa. In South Africa they think raping a baby cures aids. Quit taking our tax dollars and giving them away. I understand the need to help other countries but 17 million will just disappear into the hands of corrupt officials and we could use the money to help prevent rapes in this country.

I am African and I know what she meant. It was a direct attack at the chauvinistic attitudes and the myth of male superiority.

If you noticed, the theme of her trip was women and she did a great job representing and empowering women in Africa. That glass ceiling is real and needs to to shattered all over the world.

Bill Maher was right; smart president smart country/people. You should read more and be more informed. A reporter accompanying Clinton's trip in a round table discussion on PBS said that the African student said Mr Clinton both time. It was not mistranslated. That's why the student appologized to Clinton after the talk.

You are mistaken -- taken in by American MSM spin. Reporters who were IN THE ROOM AND HEARD THE QUESTION ASKED, NOT ONCE BUT TWICE, have reported that the question was accurately translated. Why do you assume that you know better than the African whose comment you replied to what the context and question were? Jenine Zakaria of Bloomberg Press, who was present during the incident, set the record straight last night on Washington Week on PBS.

HRC should do something nice for that African student whom she belittled a few days ago.

I realize that the Clintons have done a lot to combat HIV / AIDS in Africa, but shucks, Scarlett O'Hara showed more respect for Prissy than HRC showed for that young man.
