It's nearing the end of summer. The kids are getting ready to go back to school, work is about to kick into high gear again, and it's a great time to take a last minute eco-friendly trip. Big Bend NNP is awesome. There is lodging in the park but you definitely need reservations.
Adjacent to the park lodging is available and thankfully IMPROVING from iffy, in particular in Marfa and Alpine.

These mostly sound like Guantanamo Bay. I guess I have a different definition of 'vacation'.

Yeah, I get so annoyed every time I read an article proposing cheap or even "super cheap" vacations, and find them telling me to go to Ecuador or Costa Rica or Thailand or whatever. That's not super cheap for anyone but wealthy people! Because I'm in the mid-Atlantic region, I could probably manage a drive to North Carolina or Maine, but again, that vacation wouldn't be super cheap for someone in, say Idaho. And as others have pointed out, they're not really "eco vacations" if you're using a planeload of jet fuel to get there! Nice try at 'green.'

Super Cheap...not really!

Super cheap would be close to home within driving distance.

Flying to St. John is not cheap.

You mean, I can go outside and enjoy nature for nothing?

WOW! What a concept. Never thought of that.

Thanks so much for the advice.

"Super cheap"? Well, yes, if you don't count the cost of what it takes to get to some of these places. Sheesh.

last chance for nevada to destroy california. put all the casino mafia money into solar and wind turbine. along with no sales tax offer dwellings with year round air conditioning for free!! the only thing i don't like about gore's "an inconvenient truth" is the humidity in that scene, as the one shown here. this idea is not viable in california because-- foghetabowdit. hey arizona take all that corrupt republican money and put in solar wind alternative. set it and forget it. free power. i might even live there.
