Colbert

Stephen Colbert rushed to Glenn Beck's defense last night after news broke that several advertisers have pulled out of Beck's show. Procter and Gamble, Lawyers.com, Progressive Insurance, and more declined to be associated with Beck's program after he called President Obama a racist on a July episode of "Fox & Friends."

In a segment called "Glenn-Harried Glenn-Lost," Colbert explained that Beck didn't call Obama a racist, but said he believed Obama was a racist, which is totally different. "The problem is too many people only focus on the first half of what Glenn Beck says, not the second half where he immediately disavows the first half, or maybe they're confused by the third half when he repeats the first half. And, yes, you can have three halves except in a society where the government has death panels for fractions."

Wikipedia says that JOE LIEBERMAN was one of Beck's recommendations to get into Yale.
Birds of a feather...

Sadly, I really like their Crab Alfredo and the cheese biscuits. I won't eat there, though, now that I know they sponsor Beck. I wrote them and told them so, hopefully it makes a difference.

The modern Republican Party is based on the party opening its arms to all the bigots who felt rejected by Democrats pushing for civil rights in the 1950's and '60s. Thanks in large part to the work of G H W Bush. This is the basis of their hatred for activist judges (Brown v Bd of Education, affirmative action and busing) who implemented our nations move away from racism and why Republicans push for govt that is too small to be effective in protecting citizens from the rich and powerful who want to take advantage of them.

They know that the poorer more desparate people are the more likely they will look for traditional, conservative leaders to get them out of their problems. Unfortunately in this case the traditional, conservative leaders are pushing them into a bigger mess. Eventually this could lead to foreign occupation like China in the 19th century __ most Americans don't know we had troops there to enforce foreign debt holder interests such as sale of opium, but the Chineese do remember; or it could lead to civil war or revolution such as 18th century France, or 20th century Russia which created the Soviet Union.

rayoflight, that's what they've been systematically doing for 40 years. There are two elements to the GOP, the anti-New Deal Corporatists who set the agenda and the anti-Great Society neo cons who make up the bulk of the voters. These are people who have rejected everything from free choice for women, gay marriage policies and affrimative action. It was NOT GW Bush who began this. it was the likes of Irving Kristol (Bill Kristol's father) who begat this phenomenon. He saw in the late 60's (prior to Nixon's election) that the previous 25 years had been dismal for the GOP. The country had only elected ONE Republican in that time and he wasn't really a partisan Republican (because he, Eisenhower, believed in science and warned us about a corporate take over of government policy). But what Eisenhower did have was good ol' "folksy charm". This is why Irving Kristol helped to recruit then-Democrat ronald Reagan into the GOP fold and his son played kingmaker with GW Bush. It is also why Bill Kristol and other neo cons have a liking for Sarah Palin and listen to the likes of Glenn Beck. They certainly don't know what they're talking about but their intellect doesn't exactly pose a threat to the average American.

I beg to differ with your comment stating "...their intellect doesn't exactly pose a threat to the average American."

The conservative intellect (sic) continues to pose a devastating threat and actual effect on the average American. Things like: subsidizing corporate greed; lack of national health insurance; misdirected energy policy; sending our kids to wars over lies.

They are waging war on average Americans.

I agree with most of the rest of your comments.

I contacted Glen Beck, MSNBC, NBC, CBS, CNN sponsors emails & called to cancel & boycott ALL their sponsors. Americans do not need them nor will we tolerate anymore conflation.

If you shop on the basis of where a sponsors places his or she ad, you either :

A don't shop much anymore

or:

B have selective hearing so to speak.

Trying paying more attention!

How can the fact that bo is a racist be NEWS?

No rational person can believe BO is not a racist considering his chosen church for the past 20 yrs.

You know, you're as clever as the people who assumed the Harry Potter books had to be Satanist because the witches and wizards don't go to church. Now, aside from the fact that we're dealing with a fantasy series, you really have to wonder why people would go to a church that persecuted their kind for several hundred years.

Would you feel better about the president if he were one of the C Street gang?

Not that this has anything to do with the story above, but I have always wondered why religeous people have such a problem with the Harry Potter books, but the C.S. Lewis Lion, Witch, and Wardrobe series is good. It is just a full of Witches and fantastic creatures as any of the Harry Potter books. If someone could explain their thought process regarding theses books, I would appreciate it.

A abolition of slavery, 100 years of reconstruction, 1965 Civil Rights act…all brutally opposed by glenn and the rights’ ancestry of cletuses and roscoes. And you expect those w/even minimal brain function listen to this ferret-faced ignorant drug addled suicide watch - tell us Barack is a racist w/o laughing our asses off? If there is one thing this last election proved...is that this country is hopelessly and endlessly RACIST. I could care less who boycotts beck, I say let the simpleton spew what closeted hate-mongers choose to hide.

From the Desk of Sarah's Twisted Sister...Glenn Beck still suffers from the oft over inflated since of achievement. Glenn is a perfect example of dramatic and overly exaggerated self-esteem mostly derived from finishing the Twelve Step Program, Glenn should not set himself up for future failure with a belief system that he will receive the same results in the future. Glenn and Sarah share much in common, just gender indifferences, perhaps the two should share a BEER SUMMIT together with President Obama and simply get over themself's. What a pair to run in 2012. Now that would make a great SATURDAY NITE LIVE PROGRAM. UHMMM, possibly Steve Martin could play the part of Glenn Beck

I was just on the verge of ordering a language program from Rosetta Stone when I saw their name on a list of advertisers on the Glen Beck show. This completely changed my impression of their company - and I realized I just couldn't order from them anymore. I called them and let them know that the fact that they had advertised on Glen Beck had lost them my business because it was absolutely true and I thought they should know.

It doesn't matter if one or two people decide not to become customers due to the fact that they advertise on a show that spews negative hat speech. It starts to matter when several do, and tell you that is why you lost their business.

No matter what happens in the future, you can bet on the fact that there were *many* board meetings where the issue was discussed, and that Beck sat in on several meetings discussing his accusations. Beck "lost out" on the respect of many people, Fox "lost out" on its public image, and you can be sure that many companies will become far more cautious about how they spend their advertising dollars.
