Focus On The Family Drops Ex-Gay Program Due To Budget Shortfall

Focus on the Family, James Dobson's anti-LGBT empire and the largest organization in the religious right, announced earlier this week that it would be selling off its ex-gay therapy program called "Love Won Out." The organization says it's part of an effort to downsize in the wake of record profit losses of nearly $6 million. The news comes days after the nation's largest psychological organization released a report condemning ex-gay therapies.

I read somewhere that the ex-gay business was sold to Exodus International for a "few million dollars." I am very curious as to what was there to sell that was worht a few millions dollars? What is Exodus going to do with it?

I am curious because FOF has irritated me for several years with Dobson rooting his way onto legitimate news programs and the Bush Administration doing him many favors.

Did they obtain assets through their participation in Bush's faith based initiatives that they are now selling?

Another irony of this news is that many Christian ministries make light of or oppose psychological therapy as "non-Chris­t-centered­" when applied to other areas such as addiction and marriage counseling. Pastors as a rule do not recommend secular therapists - it undercuts their ministry.

And yet, when a supposedly Christian ministry starts a therapeutic business for profit - the aversion to this field disappears - at least until the money runs out. There never was commitment to helping cure people of homosexuality, only a commitment to making a profit.

Missionary trips and service to the poor are never subjected to a profit standard...

A few years ago a supposed gay convert wrote a book and was doing a speaking tour around the country about how God saved him from being gay and was not a happily married guy to a woman.

What he didn't tell his wife is that he was still going to gay bars and having sex with men.

Scary that anyone thinks that by praying, you will change an essential part of who you are. Isn't that was god does in the first place? Why dont' they understand that 'praying away the gay' is like changing your eye color. You can cover it up, but it's still there. And.. we can love all color of eyes..skin.. and other differences.. because that is what jeebus would do.
