Treehugger:

Woodstock may have been a one-of-a-kind concert, but the artists and bands that performed there didn't let their commitment to global, political, and social change end with the departure of the last muddy audience member. Coincidentally, yesterday I started reading "Young Men With Unlimited Capital: The inside story of the legendary Woodstock Festival as told by the two who paid for it". It's a hysterical, slapstick, tongue-in-cheek look at how young Joel Rosenman and John Roberts proceeded to get in way over their heads with the most legendary music event of recent times. Very well written, entertaining and highly recommended.

But is it accurate and true to give credit to the CONCERT of woodstock? I think the Woodstock Music and Arts Festival was unsurpassed. the High point of an entire movement. A watershed where artists and fans could look at how far they'd come, and contemplate the future. But the concert ground istself looked like dantes inferno. Seriously, when 400,000 people left, the cowpastures of upstate NY looked like Anzio.

Thank somebody, God, the stars, whatever, for the treehuggers. I am glad some people would rather that we all live on a clean home world than die on a dead one.

Good point. The earliest expressions of Green consciousness came from the Woodstock Nation. Politicos picked up on it later.

Of course, The Whole Earth Catalog was published in 1969, and the first Earth Day was in 1970. Reactionaires like Rove and Norquist have been trying and succeeding to too great an extent to fight green awareness and transformation since then (add Big Oil. Big Chemical, and Big Agriculture of course to the list).
