The thing that surprised me was how tired high heels made me by the end of the day. One week I had to wear running shoes for the week, and I was shocked at how much energy I still had at day end. When I went back to heels the following week, the tiredness returned. It was a big reason I decided to go to flats on the job.

Everything in moderation -- including high-heeled shoes.

Wear them everyday?? Nope. Give 'em up entirely?? Hush your mouth!!!!

Higher heels are unhealthy, no chit. The woman they picked for the example case study is extremely overweight, causing her to have a wide stance and awkward gait. To each her own, but I think I would pass on unhealthy+unsafe+unattractive/unsexy gait, and opt for something classy but comfortable.

I have not strapped on a pair since 1982 and probably never will again. They are something that should go the way of the corset and the hoop skirt!

I love high heels but I wear them mainly for going out, or at work (since I'm not on my feet all day). That said, it's important to buy well made shoes that are comfortable. Obviously if I'm going for a hike in the woods or a day at the beach I'm not bringing along the heels, ha ha! ;-)

In the CNN report, recommened providing adequate foot support even when wearing flats. My immediate thought was, 'so what about those who never wear shoes? Do they suffer from flat feet and other foot ailments?'

Somehow I imagine our feet were meant to support us without shoes, and by wearing shoes, flats or heels, there is some damage done. I'm not saying go barefoot, I'm just saying that the human body was meant to support itself arse-naked, and all the stuff we wear, is just messing with a body that is capable of functioning without any fuss, muss or arch support.

That said, I'm not giving up my flats, or for that matter, my bra, any time soon.

You have a point regarding going going barefoot, ybmagpye!
A few months ago I read a study conducted by an orthopedic surgeon who visited different countries checking people's footwear for carrying out different activities and what do you think he found?
The people with the healthiest feet (burns and cuts, aside) were India's rickshaw drivers!
These people walk barefoot all day in the busiest streets of India's largest cities carrying customers around for 10 or 12 hours/day. Of course, the skin at the soles of their feet was hardened but their arches were better than average and they had no corns or bunions !

I am sorry I am a female who will never give up her stiletto heels. I will wear flats too, but there is nothing sexier than seeing a woman in stilettos and a nice pencil skirt. Just alternate so you won't tear your feet up.

I saw her shoe selections, none of them were stilletos; in my own opinion the heel for stilletos should be at least 4in. I'm 5ft 1in. my heels today are 41/2 inch strappy Crocs by Unisa LOVE THEM ! ! If you take the time when shopping for shoes that they fit well, don't pinch, feet should not slide forward when you walk, and most of don't make your back hurt, you shouldn't have problems or they should be minimal. And oh yes, the lady in the video was ofer weight, she should not be wearing stilletos, she's too heavy.

Wow, that woman was a bit large to be wearing heels. I think women need to realize that they need to understand their body type. If after a week or so your legs and feet do not feel right with heels, just stop. If you are too heavy for heels, don't even attempt it, no one will judge you for it, on the contrary in fact.

I am a man, and I LOVE seeing attractive women in high heels, hot red shoes with those little straps, very hot. Having said that, I dont think women should wear the things 24/7.
Thinking this through it should work out. Woman puts on heels to go out, lets say its 7pm, eats dinner (sitting down), walks around with her guy for 30 minutes, watches a movie (sitting down) and then goes back to his place for a good time, where said shoes are, most likely, removed.

Hiking around in high heels is a common sense issue, rest your feet often, or wear something else..

S*D

Those are some clunky, fugly, boring 'heels'. If one were to throw themselves upon the flames of fashion...do it with flare.

No one is holding a gun to your head forcing you to wear them.

Women wearing high heels are much more vulnerable than those wearing flats. There's a reason why men like the heels. Just sayin'.

The video talks about arch support. Unless you wear pricey athletic shoes 24/7 it's nearly impossible these days to find regular shoes that have any kind of arch support. I have high arches, and without some kind of support my feet tire easily, so I have consciously looked for that type of shoe, but with little success in recent years. About the only thing to do is to add it, in the form of an arch support insert from Dr. Scholl's, et al. Even then it does not always work.

Another thing about the video: They talked about the woman subject wearing stilettos, but didn't show a single pair of heels higher than 3". Funny.

I've got really high arches myself and at the risk making a plug, get shoes with birkenstock footbeds. They aren't all hippy shoes anymore. They even make heels and other dressy shoes. They are a little more expensive than your payless type shoes but they are very long wearing.

I did a lot of damage in my 20s with those lovely stilts on my feet. Now, the only time I am willing to wear heels is when I'm heels over head! Otherwise - flats for me, with a nice ankle bracelet.

I like it when the woman keeps them on all the time, even during...

Dont be sorry, be happy.

Used to wear them to work EVERY day, for years and years...STILL love them like an addict...but now, I'm careful about WHERE I wear them. You know, how far away is the car going to be parked stuff???

LOL! But I gotta say...I'm a girlie girl and putting on a great pair of heels is just plain sexy!

Everything in moderation, right??? :-)
