Robin Wright Penn has filed for divorce from her husband Sean Penn, PEOPLE has learned.
Papers were filed in Marin County, Calif., on Wednesday, Aug. 12.

Never been divorced, but when I was dating, I always had one rule: never get back together with someone after you've broken up. What ruined it the first time will always come up again.

Some marriages can't be saved. Sean should have learned that when he jumped the broom with Madonna the first time around.
I remember walking down Santa Monica Boulevard one night during the 1980's and seeing a white limo driving by me with a sign that read, "Just Married: Sean and Madonna."

Whatever she decides, she has to know that she does not need him in her life, and there are lots of good men waiting in the wings, I am sure. She is one of those women who seem to get better with age, she is a fantastic actress, and she could do so much better than Sean Penn. Without his ego around, she is going to really go places in her career.
