Bob Novak

Robert Novak died early Tuesday morning in his home after a year-long battle with brain cancer.

One of his more legendary moments in recent memory came in 2005, when he said "Bullshit!" on the air on CNN and stormed off the set after a comment by James Carville.

From the transcript:

NOVAK: Just let me finish what I'm going to say, James. Please, I know you hate to hear me, but you have...

CARVILLE: He's got to show these right-wingers that he's got backbone. Show them you're tough.

NOVAK: Well, I think that's bullshit. And I hate that. Just let it go.

(Novak leaves set.)

A young Ed Henry, who had been moderating the Carville-Novak discussion, later said, "I'm sorry as well that Bob Novak obviously left the set a little early. I had told him in advance that we were going to ask him about the CIA leak case. He was not here for me to be able to ask him about that. Hopefully we'll be able to ask him about that in the future."

Novak knew what he was doing when he revealed Ms. Plane's assignment. I suspect he thought that the White Housee would provide him with cover but it never came. The CIA story caused a lot of damage to both the agency and it's employees.

I'm certainly no fan of Novak but throwing this back up in the wake of his death is just cheap.

Is there anything new here? Some new insight? Are we going to discover a new and compelling narrative that we didn't already know about?

This is just a chance to gloat over the corpse.

I don't mind gloating. What's so sacred about a corpse?

James Carville is always outspoken. No problem there. I'm sorry Bob Novak did not have the courtesy to stay on set. Mr. Novak committed treason against his country by outing a CIA agent. There's nothing patriotic about that. And Catherine Harris is not unlike Michelle Bachmann/Sarah Palin, and we all see how long she lasted.

Bob Novak ... a "mans man" in one of his "I don't have to take this *rap I'm out of here" moments.

If only he had been right about Harris defeating Nelson ... ehhh.

Blue skies Bob

I'm a liberal & proud! But today's revelations made me disappointed, sad, and livid! I read one of Novak's book and I disagreed with 90% of it's content (if not more)! But the HuffPost ought to be ashamed to use this "regrettable" moment of someone's life as the highlight of the entire tenure of his political activism!

Death or time of mourning should be impervious to ideological politicking because it's the RIGHT THING TO DO! I would say, GROW A PAIR HUFFPOST and stop appealing to the lowest denominator of your fanbase, but today, it's more fitting to say grow a HEART!

You are wrong.

Death does not confer automatic respect upon any of us.

Novak will always be remembered, first and foremost, for his role in leaking the identity of Valerie Plame. RIP.

they say don't speak ill of the dead but I'd be a hypocrite if I kept my sentiments to myself and that's one trait I'm not. So I'll just say, this reprehensible, cowardly life-form is no more. I sure as heck haven't missed him since his illness was announced last year actually I'd forgotten there ever was a Novak in journalism.

.....at the time I thought Novak was going to come running back to the set with a folding chair and slam Carville repeatedly behind the back of the head,......wrestling style.

Gotta love James Carville in these situations.
You just know he was waiting to get a dig in, for what Novak did to Valerie Plame.

Any death is a tragedy. I may not have agreed with Mr. Novak's views, but debate is critical to the health of the country. My condolences to his family.

It's really sad, that after decades in the news business, HuffPost has chosen to replay this particular clip, on this day.

It's so mean spirited to reduce Mr Novak's long career to these few moments

My condolences to Bob Novak's family and friends.

Unfortunately all of Mr. Novak's work, at the end, was reduced to the Valerie Plame affair and his prickly demeanor after so many folks were insulted that he didn't go to prison for it. Sad, but true.
