Buzz Aldrin

LOS ANGELES — Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin is taking a trip to the Emmys.

The TV academy said Tuesday that Aldrin, part of the 1969 moon mission, will accept the Philo T. Farnsworth Award on behalf of NASA at the Emmy engineering awards on Saturday.

The honor, named for TV inventor Farnsworth, recognizes an agency, company or institution whose contributions affected the state of TV technology and engineering.

NASA is receiving the award for innovations that allowed the Apollo crew's live TV broadcast from the moon.

The main Emmy Awards ceremony airs Sept. 20 on CBS.

how fitting he is getting an award for his teevee performance..as all those starring the the sequils should! funny we did the moon landing without a flitch when buzz was the star of the movie, but we wont have the technology for another 20 years to do it again?

oh and no more pesky review of the original movie stills..just the shiney new ones enhanced by nasa. cmone folks..1/3 of us who watched it when it happened were SURE it was faked. and people question if propaganda works??

Like I said to your fellow Moonie-loonie below;

........just so you know, the Sun doesn't really go anywhere at night (hint: it's the Earth that's spinning around)..........oh, and email doesn't really require stamps, so you can stop looking for where to put them.

Good Luck Mr. Gorsky.

He should get an Emmy just for punching out the Moon landing conspiracy goofball who got in his face a couple of years ago.

yea it was funny that buzz the avowed christian did it because the other guy asked him to just swear on the bible he had actually gone to the moon. thats what it was all about. the clip you watched doesnt show the whole story..but thats ok. propaganda works, even in america!

Do some research on the Internet and YouTube about all the FACTS that make that moon landing appear questionable before you resort to name-calling.

Maybe Aldrin's pugilistic act was in response to having a truth uttered in public that he wanted kept hidden to retain his "hero" status.

But regardless, when one's first instinct is to react with his fists, it tarnishes the term "hero."

not in my eyes! he's a space rocket adventurer with 2 fists of silver senior justice. how d'ya think he and Mike Collins rescued Neil Armstrong and kept Ming the Merciless from destroying the moon? Politeness? Heck no! Rayguns.

also the internet and youtube are notorious for giving bad information and providing a platform for flawed "facts". If you had said "books and television", then maybe.

Seems appropriate when you consider the whole world was watching it on TV. But did they realy lose the original live feed?
08:20 PM on 08/19/2009
no, I guess the tracking station in California was having trouble with the video feed but had perfect audio, so they used the video feed being picked up in Australia and the audio from California.
