Palin Feuds With Bank, Gets Facts Wrong

Sarah Palin has expanded her blogging to include foreign policy, writing a Facebook post on Wednesday criticizing the U.S. Export Import Bank plan to lend $2 billion to the Brazilian oil company Petrobras.

Jumping off an editorial in the Wall Street Journal, she wrote,

Why is it that during these tough times, when we have great needs at home, the Obama White House is prepared to send more than two billion of your hard-earned tax dollars to Brazil so that the nation's state-owned oil company, Petrobras, can drill off shore and create jobs developing its own resources? Buy American is a wonderful slogan, but you can't say in one breath that you want to strengthen our economy and stimulate it, and then in another ship our much-needed dollars to a nation desperate to drill while depriving us of the same opportunity.

While the Journal lamented the fact that we were exploring for oil offshore in Brazil and not in our own country, it did not suggest the deal would take jobs or income away from Americans. That's because it won't. A spokesman for the U.S. Export Import Bank, Phil Cogan, explained to Politico that the bank does not rely on taxpayer money. Moreover, the bank lends money to foreign companies so that they can purchase American goods and services.

In this case, Cogan said, the proposed loan would likely finance engineering services, sales of ships to service oil platforms, or drilling equipment.

"This is the government doing what it's supposed to do: Create jobs and make sure that Americans get a fair shot at selling goods and services -- not the British or the French or anyone else -- and to help American workers compete on a level playing field," Cogan said, noting that most developed countries have similar credit-export agencies.

COURIC: Why isn’t it better, Governor Palin, to spend $700 billion helping middle-class families struggling with health care, housing, gas and groceries? Allow them to spend more and put more money into the economy? Instead of helping these big financial institutions that played a role in creating this mess?

If the American public realizes nothing else with Sarah Palin it should be that there is no way that this new innovative communication has originated with her! This woman cannot string words together accurately enough to form one coherent thought....she is NOT the author of any of these new messages on Twitter, Facebook or otherwise. The fact remains that the woman is illiterate and totally uneducated because she has a negative zero IQ.
She is still, however, the coward who abandoned her watch as governor; the mother who continues to use her children first and her satellite family members secondly to keep her face before the media she loves to hate; and the worst scenario is her obsession to fuel the racial tensions inherent with the ignorant redneck followers across the nation. Sarah Palin will ultimately create a crisis of hatred that cannot be controlled and will not be staunched until there is death and injury to innocent people. Sadly, the ignorant members of our nation's society will only praise her more vehemently.
Wake up America, and for the preservation of our nation's heritage and our future, allow this insane person to pass into obscurity.

It's possible that since Palin is more churched than schooled that she simply got the facts wrong. But I suspect her posting such a ridiculous diatribe is because this is one of the planks of the hard right. I have a GOP sibling in TX that says the exact same thing about any money she hears about that leaves our coffers and goes elsewhere. Hard right GOPers are steeped in the ideology that none of our money should be used by anyone except the person who earned it.

and not only that, Export Import Bank of the United States (actual name of agency) is a quasi Federal Agency and not really a Bank per se, this agency lends money to foreign countries so that they will conduct business with the US.

Sarah Palin is dumb and does not understand political issues. She probably thinks that because she can see Brazil on a world map, that it gives her foreign policy experience. duh uh. She has no idea that our loan to the Brazilians will also help our economy in the form of jobs and expert professional advising, etc. Sarah "duh uh" Palin does not know that its best for us to use up other countries oil rather than use up our own. Sarah listen closely if we use up our oil, then we will be at the mercy of other of countries. If that happens then you will really see some high oil prices. Sarah you just recently started to read words,next you need to start reading with understanding.
