According to the petition the Humane Society filed, Neiman's and Bergdorf's have been hawking $1,500 Manolo Blahnik boots trimmed with "cava fur" and "natural ocelot fur." Just two problems: There's no such thing as cava fur, and it's illegal to sell ocelot fur because the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service classifies the animal as an endangered species.

Who wears this stuff? It's way over the top, gaudy and tacky.

Yawn. Non-story. Turns out that it was goat fur with an ocelot print. The only people who have a right to demand anything of the store are people who bought it specifically because it was ocelot fur. But, then they'd have to admit wanting fur from an endangered animal.

As for the whole "cava" fur thing, I'm not sure what to make of it. Lots of companies coin names for stuff. Hell, what is pleather but some clever marketing person's way of describing what's essentially nothing more than worked plastic.

Exactly. Do you remember "Corinthian leather"?

And the average Neimans shopper says:
I don't care. I'll spend even more because it sounds so exclusive and exotic! I just know I'll be the only one on my block with cava fur anything! OOOOooohhhh...so exclusive it doesn't even exist! Now get out of my way because I'm late for my next Botox treatment."

Anyone who would spend that much on a pair of boots is already clueless. They are no doubt the trophy wives of the men who tanked our economy.
