The 2009 Miss Universe pageant took place last night, and after navigating her way through various challenges from swimsuits to evening wear to answering that one crucial question, Miss Venezuela, Stefania Fernandez, triumphed to take the crown.

It was the second straight year that Venezuela has won the pageant, and the exchange of crowns from the previous Venezuelan winner was joyously tearful. You can read more details about the competition here, but we thought we'd show you some of our favorites and let you vote on who you think should have taken the title.

Perhaps The Donald should move the contest to Caracas.

I mean, what is this - the FOURTH Miss Venezuela to win since he took it over? And the second in a row?

Is he getting a kickback from that country or something.

And I agree 100% with the poster who said these women are too thin - google some of the winners from the early days in the 1950s and the 1960s. They would considered "fat" by today's sick standards of "beauty." Alicia Machada of Venezeula (1996) was hounded about her weight when she had a lovely figure. Skeletal is not healthy and it is not beautiful. It's a bad message to send to young girls.

Why doesn't Donald Trump just move the contest to Caracas?

I mean, isn't this the FOURTH Miss Venezuela who's won since he took over and the second in a row? Is he getting some kind of kickback from that country?

I agree with the one poster. These women are skeletally thin; goggle the early winners in the Miss Universe contest from the 1950s and 1960s. I guess those ladies would be considered "fat" by today's sick standards of "beauty". Alicia Machado, Miss Universe 1996 (from Venezeula) was hounded about her weight when she had a lovely figure.

The winner this year is not that great looking and it seems as though the judges picked the five least attractive women in the pageant as finalists.

I think Miss Vega from the Vega system should have won.

Although I think Miss Universe has become a joke, I think all these women are beautiful and have worked hard all their lives to come to this point. They are all winners, and proudly represented their country. Congrats Miss Venezuela, another win to your long lines of wins.
I wish I could be as beautiful and as graceful as y'all when I'm older :)

It's more like comparing their photographs than comparing them.

Stick thin and with all their ribs showing isn't attractive. Tan or not, pretty face or not.

They're going to end up with osteoperosis by the time they're thirty.

Skeletally thin with implants....huge!

And some men think that's "hot"? Please!

As a man I take these comparisons seriously.

You can't seriously compare women in different classes of outfits.

You should have either displayed all swimsuits, or all evening gowns.

I have no taste at all because they all seem perfectly beautiful to me. I have no way of telling which woman it the most beautiful. The all get my interest.

So maybe this whole Miss Universe is just a con job.

I was channel surfing when i spotted the M.U peagant. I watched it and thought all through the top 5 Miss Dominican Republic was the winner. I was truly in state of shock when I heard Venezuela had won. Has Hugo Chavez and Trump have something to do with this decision? I personally think it was a fraud.

The skin tone is poor and apparent indications of starvation are what I see in the majority of these women posted here. One not posted here is Miss Ecuador, a true beauty. Her skin has a healthy tone and she looks comfortable with her weight. Not so the other contestants whose protruding bones and slight paunches makes them look haggard. Miss Ecuador by far.

They probably thought she was "fat." You can't count her ribs.

The judges like this "waif" look where they look like 10 year old boys from the back.

The Miss Universe pageant has become a mockery. It has become not what you are, but who do you know, including the judges. Donald Trump has the pageant so politicized that beauty, real beauty has been exiled just like the Constitution during Bush's term in office. The pageant has become the most expensive farce, bar none.

It was obvious that the judges have a very narrow view of beauty, since all the finalists were caucasian. The MIss Universe contest is a joke.

You've got to be kidding me!! You're gonna make it a RACE issue?????? Give me a break. We have had non-caucasian Miss Universe before. My goodness! THROW AWAY THAT RACE CARD PEOPLE

Are we defining latinas as caucasians these days? They used to be considered people of color.

Actually, three of them were Latinas. They don't discriminate here, Miss Nigeria won some years back, and is a success model.

Miss Botsawa.

Miss Nigeria won Miss World.

Miss World had black winners back in the early 1960s; Miss Universe did not have a black winner until 1977, Janelle Commissiong from Trinidad and Tobago.

Petesdaddy:

In 1968, they had a contestant from Curacao named Anne Marie Braafheid. The lady was beautiful, funny, charming....terrific gal.

She came in second to a graceless, charmless Brazilian named Martha Vasconcellos.

Why didn't Miss Curacao win? Because it was 1968, the contest was being held in Miami Beach, USA......and she was black.
