LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department says a man has died after a deputy shocked him three times with an electric stun gun at a subway station.

Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore says the man, who was not immediately identified, was at the North Hollywood Red Line station Wednesday night when a deputy repeatedly asked if he had a ticket.

The man didn't answer, so the deputy took hold of his hands to stop and question him.

Whitmore says the man broke free, raised clenched fists and charged the deputy several times. He was Tasered, then shocked twice more when he got up and charged again.

Whitmore says a pipe used to smoke drugs fell to the ground during the scuffle.

INCARCERATING PEOPLE "FOR PROFIT" IS IN A WORD....WRONG!
In fact, until all private prisons in America have been abolished and outlawed, “the promise” of fairness and justice at every level of this country’s judicial system will remain unattainable. We must restore the principles and the vacant promise of our judicial system. There is urgent need for the good people of this country to emerge from the shadows of indifference, apathy, cynicism, fear, and those other dark places that we migrate to when we are overwhelmed by frustration and the loss of hope.
My hope is that you will support the National Public Service Council to Abolish Private Prisons (NPSCTAPP) with a show of solidarity by signing "The Single Voice Petition"

TASERS are deadly weapons and should be banned. The police are using them like cattle prods on the people. We are being forced to obey their every order through pain compliance. The police across the country are using Tasers on the elderly to children for refusing to sign a ticket to simply disagreeing with the cops procedure. The U.N. calls Tasers "torture devices". The police sold us on their use saying they would replace the use of their gun. This has not happened. The only thing Tasers have replaced is patience and reason. BAN TASERS!

although looking at the police as far back as the 1850s, this kind of behavior is not new, there is a dirty little structual secret that is entirely contemporary: Municipal and State governments have to put their budgets into order, first and foremost. This means reeling in the tax dollars going to publically and privately run detention centers and flat out closing government run mental health facilities. You have more crazy indigent people on the street and more pressure on the cops to avoid paper work and process criminals through the courts and city/state lockup. This means meteing out justice the way you do it in the developing world. No judge or jury. If you don't like what some one is doing, you drive them out of city limits and find a nice quiet place to bury them. After the crash, everything about the US is going to more closely resemble the developing world. Why should law enforcement be any different?

I'm getting the feeling from these repeated tasering stories that the device is being used without proper training and/or knowledge of the device's adverse potentials; and perhaps way more than is necessary because of a false sense of relative harm in using same rather than a gun.

One can make a case that it may be better in some of these episodes that a taser, rather than bullets, was used. One can also fathom that there are occasions when an individual may be under influence to the extent that a "normal" taser jolt does not subdue them. This is a world of dissimilar people, however, and "normal" in this case would seem to embrace quite a broad range of tolerance, or intolerance. And since a suspect is not a guilty person, unless there is a clear, impending bodily threat to an officer, I don't see how tasers can conscientiously be used.

There have been a number of graphic videos showing what I can only call wanton use of tasers as if they were a sanctioned, sadistic toy. If not or where not already policy, tasering should be investigated in the same manner as incidents where an officer shot a suspect; and there seems to be an urgent need for more training for those having these devices at their disposal.

cops are gov't gangs under the vail of legitamacy.....

innocent until proven guilty = FANTASY
guilty until proven innocent = REALITY

to serve and protect the rich/gop

to arrest and harrass liberals/dems

jeff/nicole rank were arrested for wearing antibush tshirts in WV bush rally

several people in georgia have been ticketed for having antibush bumper stickers

yet law enforcement do not arrest people carrying live firearms near obama rallies

law enforcement protects 2nd amendment of GOP but not 1st amendment of progressives......
that's all i need to know

law enforcement = joke!

A Minority does not conclude a group is ANYTHING, Right, Wrong or Indifferent, but it does need to be said that these stereotypes being offered up, constantly perpetuate nothing but negativity.. Saying Cops are crooks/bad/murderers etc., is just like saying "African-American Males sale drugs, Anyone of Spanish Decent may Rob, carjack or Murder You"..

A minority of ANY GROUP does not dictate that groups definition.

It's no point here talking to the angry mob, Cops are BAD, and there is a somehow Generally accepted mentality here:

Somehow there is a breakdown in training
The Cop is trying to get his/her rocks off
The Cop is a racist
Somehow picking on people, returning the favor from his past

* The whole story isn't here * and the few sentences that are, are somehow enough to pass Judgement on this Officer... Innocent until proven guilty doesn't apply to law enforcement Officers here, somehow your no longer an American Citizen when you put on a gun and badge..

An accidental death doesn't mean this Cop was looking to piss this person off to taser the person to death..

Some may call it "crazy", but thankfully THIS bunch doesn't enforce the law. By the "logic" here I don't see what would separate them from some homicidal Cop.. I see a lack of control over emotions, lack of judgement by forming an opinion WITHOUT ALL THE FACTS, and these connect-the-dots stories being put forth..

if you get stopped by law enforcement.........it's not about them enforcing law.....it's about you stroking their ego.

since when did this nation become one where citizens fear their police? aren't the police supposed to serve and protect? why are the police intimidating and entrapping people???

i guess the burgeoning prison corporations need to make more profit by having more people locked up....

american legal system is run by corporations....prison + military industrial complex selling guns/bullets/vests etc

Death with intent or malice, this is murder? That's a stretch, with a few sentences as proof for murder..

"To Protect and Serve"...that is the LA Police motto emblazoned on all of their cars. Actually the LA Police are like a para military group but more dangerous. Why can't police be trained NOT to treat citizens as the enemy? They have a very sad history.

Not all police are like that. Some of them are the salt of the earth - good people. However, LA is noted for it's corruption.

The constant and indiscriminant use of the taser by the police has to stop. They seem to taser everyone from grandmas to children. Here in NYC a man fell to his death because the police tasered him while he was standing on a ledge. What sort of idi/ot would not know he would fall? Do the police ever care if the person that that so happily taser may have a pace maker? As they have no compunction against tasering the elderly you know this will eventually happen.
