Mary Landrieu Comes Out Against Public Option

Speaking before what was described as a friendly crowd at the Monroe Chamber of Commerce yesterday, Sen. Mary Landrieu said she was opposed to much of the Democrats' legislative agenda.

Asked under what circumstances she would support a public option, Landrieu responded, "[v]ery few, if any. I'd prefer a private market-based approach to any health care reform that would extend coverage," according to the Monroe News Star.

The video was created by Oregon physicians who are advocating for the single-payer option. The video is very informative and helped me to gain a better understanding of various aspect of health care, as we know now it.

These Oregon physicians are in the process of organizing a caravan designed to inform the public about the benefits of the single-payer option. At last count they will be stopping in approximately 23 states, on their way to demonstrate in Washington. They need volunteers and our support. Please spread the word.

I don't think it's ideology - I think it's cowardice. Mary Landrieu has taken this position because she's afraid of being voted out of office. If she were a senator in MA or NY, she'd be cheerleading for a public option, if not single-payer.

It's neither. It's survival instinct. The Obama plan has laid an egg and she'd rather be re-elected than loyal to the egg.
