Try this headline --

USS LIBERTY INVESTIGATION THWARTED BY ZIONIST INFLUENCE!!

Influence peddling crosses all political lines.

This country has been irreparably harmed by that murderous client state.

And Lockerbie -- who ever did it - would not have occurred had we been more cautious in our political entanglements.

Come to think of it.... I can't think of a positive side to our association with Isra+l.

They are a racist, theocracy - guilty of pretty much the same kind of ethnic cleansing we've seen around the planet over the last century. And their stealth efforts to control our government and media through extended family is nefarious and treasonous.

Let's try to be rational.

Libya has abandoned its nuclear weapons program, stopped promoting and committing attacks on other nations and is opening itself up to foreign trade and the outside influences that will bring.

On the other hand, Scotland has released a dying man whose conviction was highly suspect -- failing to meet the standard of reasonable doubt. The man who "identified" him in Malta was shown a picture of him beforehand. A number of relatives of the Sottish victims believe he's innocent, and support his release.

Interestingly, the Americans are being "protected" by our captive news media from what the Scots know and vengeance-based hysteria is being encouraged. Maybe our oil industry is pissed because the Brits got the oil contracts?

No one here seems upset that the real perpetrators are likely smirking somewhere. But that realization would lead to rational thought.

As a war criminal and/or terrorist, Gaddafi is a bit player compared to Dick Cheney or George Bush. Hundreds of thousands killed in Iraq, just for starters, and all based on lies.

Gordon Brown and his Scottish cadre needed to be investigated.

To say nothing of the RBS and their handout - check it out .....

What I am seeing on the HP is that somehow this terrorist is innocent. It amazes me how willing some people are to accept any canard that fits their ongoing scenario that the US and UK willing to sell their souls for oil, and Libya and it's terrorists are just victims. Gadaffi is a mass murderer. He killed 200,000 in his war against Chad in the 1970s, he has perpetrated the Lockerbie and French airliner bombings, and he has supported terrorists worldwide. His regime is so oppressive that Iran looks like a democracy compared to Libya. As for the Europeans making a back door deal for oil-----I would not be surprised. Look at the French, they sold a nuclear reactor to Saddam Hussain and they lobbied hard in the UN to end the sanctions against Hussain for a promise that they would get lucrative business contracts in return.

Yes, i agree. I do not say Megrahi is completely innocent, but that Gadhafi is certainly implicated, and why he was not brought before the Hague is a story of its own.

What we have learned over the years - is that these 'attacks' are not always what they seem.

the era of the FALSE FLAG operation began with Isra+lis framing Muslims.

Washington is filled with terrorists lobbying for Isra+l.

One man's terrorist..... is another man's lobbyist.

I'll take my chances throwing in with that fifth of humanity you want exterminated.

Beyond all of the circumstantial evidence in Megrahi's conviction, and the murky conditions for his release, it strains credibility that Megrahi, an intelligence officer with libyan ESO was the sole author of this attack. his superiors, indeed Gadhafi himself surely must have known, and orchestrated that and the disco bombing previously in Germany.
Is the Times so tainted by Murdoch that this report is yellow journalism? Who leaked the letters? Who is the mole in whitehall? who gains from this story? Who would like to disrupt the BP deal?
There are certainly inconsistencies in Browns original statement, which was sloppy of him.
Megrahi's statement that he would like the truth to come out, now that he is in safe in Libya should be understood as classic intelligence "plausible deniability": to muddy the waters so they are as opaque as oil.
The release of Megrahi opens this case up all over again, and who benefits from that?

You know, since Murdoch took it over i don't think the Times is quite the authority it used to be.

I wouldn't believe anything that came from a Murdoch rag unless it originated somewhere else.

You know, this is about as old as it gets. I don't like the story so rather than rebut the supposition with facts I will try and discredit you personally. I see a lot of this on the HP

Sorry, but I don't believe the story.

It is called critical thinking.

This is all good news for the British tax payer. Any oil deal with Libya is good for the British economy and by letting al-Megrahi out now while he is still officially guilty saves the enormous expense of compensation had he exposed (in his planned appeal) the US and UK governments' conniving in locking him up in the first place.

The families of the victims have every right to feel outrage. For those who say this man was innocent then they should have overturned his conviction. I notice he said he has evidence that shows his Innocence kind of like O.J. With that said let's realize that a government is responsible to it's people. If they needed to release 1 terrorists that will benefit the entire population so be it. We as Americans act in the best interest of our people so may the rest of the world. The world is a complicated place so 1 Country does not have all the answers.

The quotation 'set free for oil' which is headlined is unattributed and does not as far as I can see appear to be anywhere in the article, and the headline does not really fit the contents of the article.

Lazy or tendentious journalism?

Pure coincidence that the proprietor of Fox News also owns the Times of London? Journalistic standards have certainly slipped a little at the Times! A foretaste perhaps of what would happen if Murdoch got his way with the BBC.

The BBC is just as corrupt. About a year ago an environmental writer for the BBC put immense pressure on a story concerning global warming. The e-mail exchanges became public many of which I read. The pressure included blackening the name of the writer so he couldn't get future writing jobs. The pressure came about because of this. Those pushing global warming felt they were losing the momentum and wanted to keep up pressure on elected officials to keep the money coming. So any article not supporting a global catastrophe would not be tolerated. It wasn't that the article was false, it was not timely, and it threatened the money supply to keep many green jobs. The e-mail exchanges were awful and made me realize that what gets reported to the public is tainted due to the power of money.

Can't comment on the case you raise I'm afraid - know nothing about it. I would agree that you always have to be critical and vigilant about any news media though.

The BBC story on the Lockerbie issue seems to me to be a far higher standard of journalism than the Times article though.

Abdel Baset al-Megrahi is innocent. He was setup and crucial evidence like parts of the timing device circuit board removed from the crash location, besides the obvious disparities in witness testimony that others here have pointed out.

All those commenters trashing him and his release really need to look outside of the official and very convenient line that has been fed to them. Even the "revelations" of trade deals leading to his release are nothing but smoke to hide the truth. Google is a good place start for anyone who wants to verify what I'm saying...ya'll lazy elbows can do your own research :-)

you right wing freaks never fail to amaze me. i dont know which is more astonishing, your mind numbing, inexplicable rage and blame the victim mean spiritedness on ANY subject , or your simaultaneous, general ignorance of any and all facts, avaiable to all other normal people for decision making. You people truly are wretches, and make the argument FOR humanity, a hard one to sell.
