Eco Childs Play:

The Cash for Clunkers concept isn't just for used cars anymore. Toys R Us is introducing their own version of Cash for Clunkers called the Great Trade-In. It's no surprise that secondhand baby gear use is on the rise during the recession, but Toys R Us wants to call attention to the fact that many of the used items circulating could be damaged or not compliant with the newest safety standards.

This could have been so much better than just a marketing promotion to get sales. What if:

TOYS R US - CASH FOR CLUNKERS

- Trade in your used toys for new ones and receive 20% off the purchase of new toys.
- Your used toys will be donated to under-privileged kids who live in poverty and/or whose families cannot afford toys of their own this upcoming holiday season.

This way they generate the sales they want and children who live in poverty can get some toys this holiday season. A win-win for everybody.

Welcome to SALES MARKETING 101

BOGO = 25%off
Buy 1 Get 1 Free = 50%off
Once a year a famous handbag co. will give you $50 off a new bag when you bring an old one,of theirs natch, in. The bags start at $250. So that's 20% off or less.
For every $100 you spend we'll give you a $25 certificate towards your next purchase. That equals a maximum of an extra 25% off BUT will you return to use the discount?
They're betting you won't.
SO...
Do you want it? (needing it is rarely relevant in these situations)
Is that the best price you can get it for?
Buy it and shut up!

Stripped of the hype this is just another discount scheme , an aspect of the deflation of price structure that our society is undergoing due to the collapse of 'free' credit.
Nothing to see here, move along.
